    Transmitter choice

I have been using a basic pistol grip type Tx but I also have a Hitec Aurora9 (2-stick type) that I use for my planes. The best thing about it is the telemetry function. I get speed, altitude, voltage etc on the Tx screen in real time. Can I use this Tx for a FE boat? Or do I need a pistol grip type?

Which one should I look at?
The Hitec Lynx 4S has telemetry.

Use whatever you feel more comfortable with. Ground sets are available in both stick and pistol type from several manufacturers, but 2.4ghz is an open frequency, so you are not limited to ground sets, you can use air if you like. Personally I prefer stick radios, and like the utility of one set that can run all my models, which pushed me towards an air set, and the fact that I could get a 6 channel air set cheaper than a 3 channel ground set from the same manufacturer and cheaper RXs sealed the deal.

The Hitec/Multiplex radios have a good RF link, the only thing that would put me off using your Aurora9 is that the knobbly dipole antennas on the RX could present problems getting out of the hull.

I've been using the Aurora9 handset since it first came out and it has been fantastic, it has twice ended up in the lake and after being dried out has worked fine again. Regarding the dipole antennas they are a pain to get out of the radio box or hull so I keep them inside on all 13 of my boats without any problems at all, but then all of my boats are glass epoxy not carbon...

if you are saying that you want a stick type radio but for surface models, the Futaba 4GRS could be perfect for you. its certainly a little pricey though, but looks like a fantastic radio with alot of features.
