    Canard Hydro.

    Just a quick question guys.
Are Canards legal to run in Sports Hydro classes over there in the States?
I'm thinking of building this one up. Would be nice to race it in 6s Sports Hydro.

Is that from the new molds Wayne did? I really want one, but the shipping would be killer.

It should be legal in Sport Hydro, but there will likely be a debate about it.

      Thanks Ray.
I bought the hull from a fellow club member down here.
I will discuss it with our guys further of course, but I just wondered what the situation was over there with canards.

        No
The sport rules state that the sponson ride pads must be in the front portion of the hull.
I do not know the exact percentages off of the top of my head.

No debate at all. Canards are specifically disallowed in NAMBA Sport Hydro FE classes. Too, all riding surfaces must be in the front 50% of the total hull length. Not sure about IMPBA.

              Hey Paul,
I can't see it being allowed to race under our sport hydro rules after my lobster hydro didn't pass.

                Well that's a bummer.
Oh well. No 6s sports hydro for this year then. I had to drop a couple of classes anyway.

                      Hi Heath.
                      The 6s Sports Hydro.
                      Restricted Sports Hydro.
                      Maybe 4s cat.
I've got a new 4s mono & restricted mono to build up for the start of the season & I can't wait to try out Petes' kit the "SharpShooter" in 4s Sports Hydro.
Plus I'm going to run a rigger this year, so that's still 5 classes plus the 1/8th scale hydros.

Paul, here is an extract from our rules. You are right to go. Cowl mold nearly done.
                          0.2 HULL SPECIFICATION
                          1. The hull must resemble a limited or unlimited hydroplane design of the past or present with the exception that
(outrigger, modified outrigger and/or tunnel hulls are not permitted in this class).
                          2. Sport hydroplanes may have more than two riding surfaces touching the water at planing speeds.
                          3. The hull can contain rear wings and/or front wings.
                          4. A Canard hull defined as having two rear sponsons and a single forward sponson, will be allowed to run in this class.
                          5. The sponsons may have pads or breaks that contact the water at planing speeds.
                          6. The boat must have a name and/or sponsor’s name, logo and AMPBA racing number affixed to hull (a local,
national, or fictitious sponsor name is acceptable).
                          7. If the bow is recessed behind the tips of the sponsons, the recess must be no larger than 25% of the overall length of
                          the boat.
                          8. The boat must have a driver and cockpit/or defined simulated enclosed cockpit.

Looking at item 7. Would the measurement be from the tip of sponson or from the bow?

item 4 would be the rule that allows it?
