    Motor torque is determined partly by the leverage applied by the magnetic field. An electrically or mechanically inefficient motor will draw more current but have less torque than a more efficient one. The larger the diameter the higher the theoretical torque. Outrunners have more torque than a similar weight inrunner for this reason. A 6.4 liter NA engine has more torque than a 5.0 even with the same horsepower.

    Weight advantage, meh. The "difference" between 2350 watt 40mm and 36mm motors is ~60 grams. This is of no consequence for the typical rigger.
