Jae 12 rigger

Picked up a nitro jae 12 rigger for dirt cheap in good shape. Was wondering what motor/esc/prop selection would be recommended for something like this. I've never converted a nitro boat nor had a rigger so that area is all new to me. I've tried searching but can't find much.

I run a leopard 2860 3400kv on 3s and an x432 in my mk1 JAE.12 which nets me 5 minutes on 4500mAh, it is not that fast though, it is very heavily built for the size of boat, they used to do a lightweight version as well that would be more suited to this setup, or the mk2 is an in between weight. It suits more power than I am giving it, things perk up a bit on an x435 but with shorter runtimes, I think a x438 at similar RPM would be a good sport setup for it, but that would probably be happier on a short 36mm or 40mm motor and it has a very shallow tub for the IC engine to stick out the top of and it will need some sort of canopy to fit any worthy motor in unless you use an "S" bent flex. I cut the Vac-U-Boat / Zipp plastic .21fe canopy down to suit which gives just enough room for a 28mm motor with "J" bent flex and looks good, a bigger diameter motor would need some sort of a bubble canopy, one of the really long TP 29mm motors may be a good compromise in terms of torque and fitment, but I haven't tried one myself.

Check out how much room you have for a battery, I moved my rear boom up as far as I could during the build which allowed me to just get one of my 3s 4500 race packs under the boom (not ideal as it needs the motor out to get it in and out so it charges in situ), with the boom in the stock location I think you will have to buy short LiPos to fit in front of the boom rather than run regular size ones, maybe little 2000ish parkfly packs in 2 or 3p.

Thanks for all the info. I was doing some digging and guys say the jae 21 cover fits the 12 with a little nodding which allows you to fit a larger can at an angle. I will Def look into it when it arrives. It was already built for nitro, and I do have an OS 18 motor brand new, but I'm more inclined to FE

It's not hard to make a cover out of balsa if you need to, super easy.
