Aprox. how many minutes in a race?

Trying to figure which batteries, and their mah capacity to buy to finish a 6 lap race with room to spare. Never raced before so I don't know.
The boat is a 4s 30" hydro, (P class?), The previous owner was using 6000mah 2s serial, seems like that wouldn't leave much headroom. For just
having fun, I'd like to have about 4+ minutes

It depends on the setup. I built a SS30 that Frank runs in D9 with a 1515 1Y, X642, the boat is a CF light lay. He runs 4S2P 4000 maH using 2500Mah to 2600Mah from each pack. They have 28% to 31% left in them.

With more weight it eats more Mah. You have to watch the temps too. running smaller prop will help on consumption.

I run a bigger heaver boat and have to run a little more battery. I am also a little faster than Franks boat.

Are you saying he used aprox. 5000mah in a 6 lap race that lasts how long? mill, and infield cool down? Thinking of using a Ammo 2300 motor, I also have a Neu 1515 2200kv, or a Leo 4092 2080kv. Right now the boat
has an Aquacraft 60amp ESC, I am told it was working fine, and not overheating, the boat had a UL-1 motor. May have to buy more props for this boat, for the smallest ones I have are a Grim 42x55 2 blade, and 40x52 3 blade. I do have a FC 200 amp ESC, But that was going for another build. Thankz Randy

        2.5 minutes give or take...

4 minutes is only in Offshore.

Running a 1515 1Y and a M445 prop on a P OB tunnel we use 3500-4000ma. Can make it on a 5000ma setup but no room for a penalty lap or jump start and come in with 15% or more left. A race is one mill and 6 laps at say wordt case 20 seconds a lap so under 2 minutes actual run time. A GR42X55 or Oct M440 will increase run time but lose speed. We can step up to 6000ma and push an M545 but it is hard on equipment. well over 200amp peaks. Going with a larger watt motor will take more power. Somewhere in there the weight gain for more MA will overtake the motor gain. A 1515 1Y is a great "P" motor. (Castle or Neu)
