    2-lap sprints

We had a 2-lap sprint day on Saturday, for NZ records.

I smashed the existing open electric mono record with my Pursuit running 4s2p x447/3 with a 30.20. It was 33.85.
P offshore I did a couple of months ago and ran a 33.89 on 1p
My new Q hydro ran a 31.29 on an x447.
Pretty happy with that and a bit of room to break them again next year.

    Hang on Pete.
Are you saying that your 4s mono was faster than your 6s sports Hydro?
But congratulations on a fine bit of work.

Yep mono was faster, but to be fair I've raced with it for a couple of years now and am quite familiar with it's handling. The Hydro is just new and I'm still getting the feel of it. I think that next year the hydro can push under the 30 sec mark. Oh and the hydro is only running 1P.

        Fair enough mate.
The sports hydro will be quicker when you get it sorted.
        Cheers.

Maybe, maybe not. The NAMBA Q-Mono 2-lap record is faster than the Q-Sport Hydro record. Ditto with the T records. All were driven by world-class drivers. But it seems that the Sport boats should be faster....

You got to remember that Down under, they are racing upside down compared to us.
For us to be equal to them in speed, we have to drive standing on our heads.

I think most people drive closer to the buoys with a mono than with a cat, hydro, or rigger, as there is normally a far lesser penalty for clipping one.

True that, a mono will launch off a bouy, but a hydro, well.....

                      20151107_162946.jpg20151107_162954.jpg

The other end was damn near perfect but on the last turn I overcooked it and slammed a bouy. Our bouys are large net floats, high density foam, the type used on purse seiners. The sponson was embedded about 3" into the bouy, I had to pull it out, didn't get much water in the boat though.

Hey Peter, that's some good driving - Congrat's.

Here in L.A., because of the advantage given by the Earth's rotation, we have to drive with a live chicken strapped to our head.

Also, we use gaily colored inflated condoms for 2-lap turn buoys - easier on the hull seams.

Here's Tyler's Q-Hydro testing out the new prototype "Exploding LVC" at a recent Legg Lake 2-Lap:

I was just having a look at the NAMPBA course rules and it works out that our course (being done in metric) is a tad longer at 294 M or 971'. the course you run there is 880' or 266M (roughly). You use longer straights too. Our course setup means that you spend over 1/3 of the course turning which bleeds off speed as well.
I've got a way to go yet to match the speed of Tyler and Mark Grimms boats but!

Congrats on your new record! I have really grown to like the time trials. You can learn a lot about your driving and you boat at these events.

Here is some pretty good video of an IMPBA 2 lapper. This is also Q sport hydro.

                            Later,
