I haven't purchased this from HK, but I find the size and powering from the receiver interesting.

I have this one. seems to be a very good GPS. Small and light. Just read the instructions and practice your button pushes. A couple of times I've lost data because I pushed the wrong button. I've clearly labeled the buttons with dymo labels too.

Dynamite GPS is good... 10hz refresh rate. and it is built on the Holux chip.

It also happens to be very very light... and floats on water (an unintended benefit :))
Gets soaked for a few hours and still works fine.

The only issue is that the software is junk. Only works properly after updating the device with the latest firmware...

I bought the HobbyKing GPS, I wish I had not.
The sample rate is ONE sample per second which is far from fast enough in my 150 foot test pond.
The GPS chip is supposedly capable of TEN samples per second but the included software is not.
HK should source software that does this, otherwise it takes someone who has the skills to reprogram.

I have tested many:Sky is junk,Quanun is ok when you learn to deal with it , Holux 245 is a good small unit if you have enough space in your boat BUT Garmin forerunner is definetiuvely what I would recommend.Gill

Spoke with Dynamite and they informed me that their unit won't read through CF cowling. Suggest I mount outside in a waterproof bag?

Yea, thats what I do. Strap it down well with waterproof duct tape like Gorilla tape. Just be sure you update the firmware to the newest version otherwise refresh rate won't be 10hz. Even if you set it be 10hz inside of their software. The only way you can update the firmware on the device is by holding down the top Options button when you turn it on... and then right away pressing the update firmware button on their windows software. It'll take a few times of trial and error lol...

I am talking about the HobbyKing GPS as referenced in post #5 above, and not the Horizon Dynamite.
Does anyone know the path to reprogramming the HK GPS to 10 cycles per second?
