I have this boat ,the motor is pretty good ,oil the bearings ,buy a 180 sea King from OSE they have much bigger capacitors than the ones on eBay ,your stock prop will fly apart 1st thing ,I never ran the stock flex cable ,it looked to cheap and didn't want to loose a prop ,I run an M 447 and an x648 prop ,on 6s ,lots of fun ,adjust your strut all the way up ,buy a 30$ flex cable ,tape your hatch down ,grease your flex cable every trip out ,hope this helps ,this can be a really fast boat

        My favorite boat and subject!

I have two of these boats, one is carbon reinforced to handle the 80 mph setup I plan for it. My current one does about 65 - 70 mph with basic upgrades and additional fiberglass reinforcements.

If you want to stay with the stock motor a while, I would recommend the below.

        - Buy a Turnigy 180a ESC. Its the rebranded SeaKing 180, but with better capacitors and $30 cheaper.

        - Change the 4mm stock connectors on the motor to at least 5.5mm ones, Castle Creations or OSE branded ones. You will need to change the connectors on the ESC as well to match.

        - Drop the stock 2-piece flexshaft which is a pain to maintain. Buy a .187 flexshaft from OSE or Kintec, they both sell Genesis upgrade shafts for about $25. If you move to the .187 flexshaft, remove the teflon liner. You will also need a 5mm to .187 motor coupler, which is about $10.

        - The Octura M445 so far has been my favorite prop for this boat. Fast and cool, stable running. About $15, but you will need to sharpen and balance it.

        - Batteries, if the stock motor can handle it, would be 6S setup. Buy 5000mAh 3S batteries, Turnigy Heavy Duties are $40 each and have a 60C - 120C rating.
However, it maybe better that you stick with a 4S setup for now, especially with a stock motor & hull. Buy 5000mAh 2S batteries, Turnigy has them for about $25 each, with 40C - 50C rating.

        - If your Genesis gets above 50 mph, you will need to reinforce the hull and canopy, since it will crack easily if it flips over above those speeds. Also, screw down hatch latches are highly recommended.

        - Make sure to properly calibrate your receiver to your ESC. Especially the throttle calibration. Very easy to think you are at 100% power, but you are really at 80% because you didn't calibrate it the first time out.

I've attached some picks of my boat to get some ideas, along with a video on 6S below.

Its a good pond, except it's saltwater, but I think the boats move a little better in seawater. Corrosion-X has become my best friend running exclusively in that pond :)

On Saturday, the scale battleship guys are there from 7am - 10am, the sailaboats from about 10am - 2:30pm. After that, that pond is pretty much free.

Sunday is power guys, the gas guys rarely shop up anymore, but there is a strong electric group, including some 100 mph SAWs

A fishing rod with a tennis ball is the most common system, but people can and will jump in to save a sinking boat. Its kinda deep in the middle just to let you know.

Once in a while, guys with show up with a boogie board and snorkel and look for treasure, such as canopy's, flexhafts and props sitting on the bottom.

Or if you can wait, there is a small current that will push the boat to one side or the other eventually.

What is an epoxy balloon ?I figured you inserted a balloon into the sponson tip to hold your fiberglass in place ,

Its hard to say really. But I run about 99.99% in saltwater, and on the rare times I do get a chance at a freshwater lake/pond, I do notice that the boats run a little different.

Top speed on GPS is about the same, but the boats seem to take a little longer to get on plane in comparison to when I'm in ocean water. Of course that could be mostly in my head.
