    8s 1500 kv in a Genesis?

Time to upgrade the Genesis. Here's the question I have. 1500 kv on 8s or 2000kv on 6s. I want to get into the 70's. Got a 4082 1500kv now and get high 50's. So keep the motor and upgrade Esc and buy new 4s batteries or buy a new motor and new 3s batteries. Need to buy batteries anyway mine are getting tired. Pro's and con's for both since the cost to go either way is about the same.

Either way you will be pushing beyond the RPM that is recommended by most people here. But you may already know that. One thing to consider is 8S 5000 mah has 25% more total power than 6S 5000 mah. That can be used for more speed or run time depending on your setup. However, 8S puts you into high voltage category. ESC, Battery Charger, are the big things that must change. Then motor and Bec must be high volt compatible too.

Thanks for the reply. Since I would run 4s in series my charger is not a problem and I already run an external bec so that's not an issue either. So I'm not seeing a reason not to run 8s. I don't think that 6s batteries will provide the power I need just as when I made the switch from 4s to 6s I think the switch to 8s can only be good.

What are your overall goals for the build? Speed is only one, what about run time, reliability, handling? I have run 8S on a 1500 Kv motor - in SAW competition. It is pretty extreme for sport running, but it can be done safely if the boater is willing to limit his run time. An advantage of 8S as pointed out above is the same speed can be achieved with fewer amps. I assume this is a single motor setup, an x450 prop may get you to your speed goal, but I'd start with an x447. Only make two long passes and bring it in to check temps. It isn't the amps which destroy ESCs and motors, it is the heat. A longer motor will handle the heat better.

The next issue will be keeping the boat on the water without blowing off. The Genesis hulls I've seen are pretty thin and may be damaged in a blow over at 75 mph.

Going to start with a x443 prop and battery position forward should keep front down. I'm pretty cautious about temps as I have learned the hard way thanks for the input

I may be reaching here but I use a 220 pro esc for 6s. Have you ever tried to run it on 7s with an external bec?

The experience of five of my fellow club members with Swordfish controllers has been less than stellar......
