    Shark skin effect?

I have read, on this forum about sanding the ride-pads in order to get them smooth, but not polished, like shark skin. This to get a few mph. Do you think a mono hull would benefit from such mod? Can i do it on a mono, and get some more speed?

    Thanks

    Regards, André.

It will free it up a bit yes Andre. This is actually most noticed on a mono. Other hulls do not have near as much surface riding on the water.

Thanks! Do you have an idea where to start sanding, or do i sand all the hull?

I've sanded the entire bottom of my mono hull with 600 grit wet. I didn't do a before go's test, but I trust the pros here.

400grit is fine for the bottom and the back 1/3rd of hull should be good. Though there would be nothing wrong with doing the whole bottom, just that most likely just the rear 1/3rd is all that is in the water.

400-600 grit and keep the hull wet when sanding. You are just trying to remove the polish so be careful not to over sand. Try to keep the strakes sharp as much as possible in addition to the edge between the transom and bottom.

Cool, thanks for all the tips! An other question: Did somebody tried RAIN-X on the hull? As a water repellent it should have a similar effect. Am i right?
