GF is quizzing for Christmas Ideas already

Hey guys, so I've been bitten by the boat bug. I finally took the plunge after being into offroad rc for ages and wanting something new. I always looked at boats and never saw the draw growing up as they all seemed so slow. Now that we have huge advances in pricing on the 2.4/brushless/lipo I figured it was time to finally get into fast boats. So I picked up a Recoil and now in a little over a month I have about 5 boats including a Shockwave V3 BL, Geico 24 ready for new electronics, a kyosho viper that i've had for ages and needs too much work to revive at the moment, and a Blackjack 26 that my autobody buddy is fixing fiberglass on (needs paint, and an esc after). So the gf saw this as a great way to drop hints about a christmas gift (thank god its not a ring even though she deserves one lol), and asking me about what i'd want. So she dropped a few hints that go from $300 up to $1200 and she knows roughly what I am into so she asked if theres any r/c's im keen on or if I want any parts for my project car (74 BMW 2002 im doing an engine swap in).

Anywho since I have been on a boat kick I have been looking at getting a fast boat, and it would be nice to have something relatively robust and nice looking that I can put to good use. I've checked out a few of the more popular boats like the Impulse 31, Blackjack 29, Voracity-E, Spartan (general consensus is plastic=fail and horror stories about electronics), and the HK Genesis (hull only, and piecing gear together). I really like all of them but the one I keep looking at is the Genesis just because it seems like it has the most potential due to its size. That being said I have no clue on what I really want the boat to do so it kinda leaves me looking at what parts i'd like to use to meet the goals, and by the sounds of it it needs some work even as the hull only version.

In a perfect world I suppose I would love to be close to the 60mph mark on a smooth day without worrying about popping esc's and frying any motors. I've given thought to asking for both the Impulse 31 and Blackjack 29 for some racing action between her and I (she bought and built her own Tamiya T1 wheelie van to race against my Tamiya Lunchbox lol) and selling off my excess inventory to keep boats from piling up everywhere at the house lol.

So what would you guys suggest. Given the budget of up to $1200 what would you build up or would you go with two similarly matched boats?

Depends on the route you want to take. Do you want to build a boat or pull something out of the box that is basically ready to go? Do you want a mono? Cat? Both?

I would strongly suggest with that budget, that you buy a bare hull from a manufacturer such as MHZ or one of similar quality and do your own thing as far as motor, electronics etc. In the long run you will get more satisfaction out of building it yourself and the options of hull design/size are far more varied. Just my thoughts.

I agree, with that budget you can build a nice rig. But if your looking for another RTR the new voracity is very appealing and should get you well into the 60's setup properly.

If you don't want to build, your best bang for the buck is the voracity. It does 50-52 out the box (mine did 57) but you'll need to upgrade the Esc to a higher amp version to get to the 60mph mark reliably. O and s/b the prop.

sell all those other boats, buy her a nice RTR boat, and go boating together, I'd suggest both of the same (catamaran or v-hull) I wasn't much of a catamaran guy, but I am really liking my dad's Blackjack 29 for what it is.

I didn't think I was a cat guy either until I built my rivercat Lol. A mono is definitely nice to have for when water/wind conditions aren't in favor of the cat.

I agree, build your own,You could do 2 Delta force monos for that budget.
