Great day at the lake ,need to figure out torque roll

Just had a great day at the lake ,HK genesis on 6s,was using a spartan plastic prop till it broke ,it had some torque roll ,then I ran a 445, and dropped the strut a little ,really fast, but over chop or just a little air and torque roll becomes a problem ,sometimes the water was glass and it would scream in a straight line ,I liked the fun of the bigger prop but not the swimming ,so stock motor maybe a 642, bigger motor lower KV on a bigger prop, would this help with torque roll? or is that just the way it is with a single cat? Some one posted some great info on motors and props for the HK and I've saved it ,any advice please ,also I really want a zonda, are they a great 41" boat or is there anouther twin out there for around 800$?thanks ps kept my ski vest on for swimming ,makes it real EZ,

Try a smaller prop, might help with the torque roll.

Good that you use a floating vest :-)

You could try an offset rudder.
Right prop and setup will maby make your cat stabile, but the hull is a bit narrow for one motor maby.
Is your prop sharpen and balanced? It have a lot to say in handling!
You could buy them finish sharp and balance, if you do it self just remember the copper propa is very toxic so you need a mask.

      What is your setup?

My proboat blackjack 29 hit 50 mph without any performance issues, stabile run straight and fast with small adjustments, you dont always need two motors to get it stabile.

Torque Roll. Make sure the collet you have connecting the motor shaft to the flex is running true and is not wobbling all over the place. Does the torque roll get worse with speed or remain mostly constant through the rev/speed range? Slowly turn the prop by hand with the flex connected into the tightened collet - watch carefully to see if the flex has any sideways motion in it when it turns (as it comes out of collet). If it does, switch out the collet and see if that helps.

With a Leopard 4082, 1600kv motor, 3/16" flexshaft, 6S, Octura x642, my 36" HK Genesis runs quite well. I medium (not slow, not full) start her and go WOT after a couple of seconds, after she's on plane.
Originally tried x645, m645 but the torque roll was too much and it would flip.

I also have a carbon fiber Zonda (41" Phantasm). With with 45mm CNC props, 5S, stock motors, 120A Seaking ESC, its a bat out-of hell.

My Daytona has a 4082 1600 on 6s as well. Just to give you an idea of your speed, my boat ran 62mph on that setup with a detongued 642 and the strut sitting flat to the bottom of the sponsons. With the strut at .200", slight positive trim and an m545, it ran 67 mph. Very potent sport runner and I have no trouble with torque rolling.

Thanks for the tip on the m545 prop.
With a 9.4" beam, the Genesis/Daytona can turn quite well once you are use the her.

I run the stock motor and was using a stock plastic Spartan prop till it came apart ,I had the strut way up ,then I installed a 445 and lowed the strut a bit ,it only torque rolls if I punch it on take off ,which can obviously be controlled ,but at speed and a little chop so the prop comes out of the water it gets tricky, running close to shore so I don't have far to swim ,with my ski jacket on ,ordered a 642 because the 445 seemed a bit too much ,crazy fun though ,trying to keep a flex shaft in my Spartan ,I ordered a good one but its taking a long time to get here ,then I can wreck 2 boats :)

Yes. Thrilling to run WOT. It will leap right out of the water. On 5S, amazing straight-line speed. Torque-roll not a problem.

This^^^. The strut needs to be .200 off the table with the boat flat on the table. You'll probably have to elongate the slot on the strut and clearance the bracket. Don't bother trying to take off fast either. It'll roll over. Very sharp and thin on the leading edge of the prop helps too. The torque roll comes mostly from being too narrow and the prop too deep in the water. I had one that did 85 with a m645 prop and once it was tuned in, no torque roll.

Sounds like a great setup for the Zonda with stock motors, have you check the speed with a gps? Just wondering how fast it is with stock motors on 5s, and with your 45mm prop :).

I have not been able yet to GPS it, but my guess is high 60's.

My experience with torque roll is the more rotating mass, (large outrunner) the more reverse torque force. Also the more prop drag (large dia or not sharpened) the more reverse torque force.

So bigger motor turning a bigger prop is not the answer,I'll try a 642 that just came in ,see if I can hit that ragged edge speed ,I'll adjust the strut back up ,but that seems to make it less stable ,don't really know why except maybe less boat is in the water ,I'm going out Saturday with my cat and a spartan ,finally got my flex shaft ,one problem is the rudder grabs long toolies floating in the water and once they grab on it won't turn anymore ,these trail about 3' out, gotta drive pro active and turn away from the dock ,these trailers have put me into the rocks a couple of times ,lots of hull repaire ,but can't wait to hit the water ,thanks for the tips ,
