    Twin Pirate

    IMGP0731.jpg

    Hi everyone,
Here's my new machine. Due to a failure of imagination, she's called 'Jaws'. More photos are on my page. There is a short video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qaky...ature=youtu.be I'm not happy with the tuning yet but I have yet to fit trim tabs. These DF pirate hulls rip the corners though!
    Cheers RB.

Wow that is awesome, great job! I'm not sure if you can because of space limitations but you might just try moving the cg forward before you install tabs. Either way that is a really cool setup you got there.

Edit: Oh and I just noticed try bringing the strut angle more neutral. Looks like you have a lot of positive angle there that is trying to raise the bow.

          I love it.
You've inspired me to finish building my twin drive Wasabi & get it on the water.
I must agree with Jamey though. The strut angle does look a bit extreme. That would be the main cause for the bow bouncing off the water. Try dropping it down to about one degree angle.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

..Yes I think you're right. I had the struts dead flat and had the dreaded hop bounce, tried putting the weight back a bit which made it a bit better. But I had just done that run with them really positive to stop the bounce. It did but as you can see a bit nose up choppy. I think when you see the vid the boat looks too nose up when on the plane which kind of confirms this. I can mess with the center of gravity a lot. Both the batteries move forward and back. The back battery by about 1" and the front by about 3". As a feature, the batteries are equally spaced from the COG so I can change pack size to alter the boat weight without altering the COG. Thanks for the input guys. I will certainly be stuffing around with it a bit more before I put tabs on her.

Everything you are saying seems a little backwards but I am still learning too. Weight more forward and struts neutral should bring the front down and stop the bouncing I would think. For you it sounds to be the opposite, weird.

Anyway I have read a bunch about setting mono cog at 28-30 percent. I just know anything less than 30% was not good at all. Maybe for straight line smooth water runs, but that is about it. For me 30% or slightly more even was the ticket. Worth a shot anyway.

You could even test swapping rotation and drive lines to see if that changes anything. Again super nice boat you got there!
