is this clearcoat that fall of from taping the hatch? How to repair?

    Hi.

I have a proboat blackjack 29 v3 that i have taped the hatch for about 20-25 times.
I see that the clear paint fell off, is this clearcoat? Not gelcoat because that is under the paint?

How could i do so it not get off anymore and how could i fix this issue where the spot is?

I add a pics from the tape damage.

    Thanks for reply :)

Yes its clearcoat falling off...I know it is annoying to see that but honetly I would not worry about this problem as to repair it you will need to carefully sand the spot and with an airbrush try to paint this area.....not so easy if you re not used to paint so let it this way and have fun with your boat.Gill

Thank you for answer Gill. Yes i know what you mean and it not have anything to say for the boat.
But it feels like more will come off next time i tape.
I could carefully sand the loose area and just buy clearcoat for boats? Or could i just use clear paint for nails or cars just to seal the area thats have the issue?

If you think it is worth the work you can buy a two component clear from any good brand...I like PPG but there's a lot of brands...no way to use clear for nails...it will fall off too. Gill

I understand, but will clearpaint for cars works?
Or is clearcoat for boat a lot different paint?
Cant find anything on a small bottle, the big 2 component coat almost the same as my hull.

Here they talking about repair flaking clearcoat and they also wright about it is gelcoat? i do not understand that. Maby is because of my poor english, but why they talking about adding gelcoat to get a shiny paint and protect it?
Other places they say gelcoat could not dry in air..

After one more taping it gets worse.
Tryed to easy scratch away one spor where a flake was stick and i get against the black stickers.
How do i know when i need to add gelcoat? If the red color get of and it showe white? Is the white under the paint that we call gelcoat?

Gelcoats are like painting over a fiberglass hull..is the first step done in a molded boat before the hand lay up fiberglass so when the hull is removed from the mold the finish is gelcoat(epoxy or poliester). It's correct to say that poliester gelcoats are hard to set in air because they cure under isolation from air but epoxy ones cure as glues, resins etc.

Thank you for the info! Glad you help.
I just added clearpaint for cars to stop it but i dont know how long it will work.
Is this a normal problem or is it a guarante case?
The manual say you should tape the hatch, but as we know it is very rough for the clearpaint over time..

If you have hatch locks, I highly recommend using Harbor Freight electrical tape in the future.

It holds well, doesn't leave residue, and will not pull paint like other tapes will. You can get a 10 pack for $5.00

I've been painting my boats in the last 40 years and had problems with clear falling off in the beginning due to a bad cleaning and sanding of the paint before apply the clear...if your paint is well degreased and sanded the clear very often suffers this problem.3M tape never leaves residues so its a good investment in my opinion but of course hatch locks are a good help...not my case as I only run outriggers.Gill
