    Antique electric outboard Identification?

I had a client walk in today and said here, this is yours. It's seventy years old and I used to run it on 2 DD batteries when I was 5 years old.
It's a Reeves Product Evinrude electric outboard. Thought I would ask if you guys new what the history was. I did not realize model boats were of interest so long ago. He was astounded when I showed him a video I took of Brian running over 140mph with an electric cat at the saws in LA.

Here are some new photos. Can anyone identify or know who could identify this motor. What is the wire coil for?

          Thanks, Allen

The coil creates the north and south magnetic poles that interact with the real magnets on the rotor.

If its a DC motor doesn't the electro magnet need to rotate? And the rotation cause switching of the polarity? (brushed motor) I guess the electro magnet could be stationary but the polarity still needs to be switched by the rotation.

That thing is awesome! Really cool that the guy has had it for 70 years since he was 5. I love hearing about the history of stuff like that.

I wish I could find out the history. I bet it's extremely rare? There has to be collectors of vintage rc boats and motors that might know what it is.

I found out the history and ID by going to: toyoutboardmotors.com

                    Hi Allen,
Yes, that motor goes on the Reeves "Silver Skipper" boat. The boat is made from the same metal. Not great quality but is pretty early. I think maybe early 1950's. This particular motor has the correct "Evinrude" name on it making it one of the later motors made. The original had a misspelling on it that said "Evenrude".
This are not particularly rare. You seem them on Ebay pretty regularly. You usually see them as a package with the original boat and box. The box is a bright blue color that says "Silver Skipper" on it.
                    I hope this helps.
                    Good luck

                    Hope all is well,
