    Q Hydro (outrigger) manufacturers

    Hey Guys

Are there any manufacturers of 6s/Q Hydro outriggers out there for circuit racing, i'm looking for a composite lightweight if possible.

    Cheers

    Steve,

There are only a few of them.

Brian Buaas of Raptor Aerosports makes a very nice composite Q hydro. I believe you can order it in fiberglass or Carbon. I attached some pics of mine and its twin brother which Mike Caruso owns.
Randy Naylor of BBY Racing also produces a Q hydro.
Andy Brown of Competition Marine can tailor a wood rigger to suit your needs.
Rico Racing may also make one, but I don't know much about them.

      Steve,
I have had a few boats since 1972. The Raptor is not only Jewelry but it is the best handling boat I have ever driven.
      Good luck

Good looking boats Tyler, I like the eyes on the cowling. Nice shot of the 3 boats side by side too and all the white water.

Brian did all the work on those two boats and they race just as good as they look. That pic was taken at the 2014 FE Nats in Michigan where the Raptor's won all the rigger classes. I believe that is Doug Twaits Jr on the inside and Newland in the middle. They also hold the fastest 1/3 mile 2-lap record for any FE boat at 18.3s.

There are also a few exotics from Germany, but you would have to make some of your own custom hardware to run. Here's a video of one of the more recent version still in testing. Speeds are considerably faster now. Feel free to contact me if you want contact information. They speak pretty good English.

(Just a few laps on this video! 20 total if I remember correctly)

Thanks Tyler for the info on manufacturers, Mike and your raptors look really sweet.... Ive dropped Brian an email so hopefully i might get one.

Could you help me with the setup your running, motor etc? I've got a Lehner 2250/7 motor that i ran in my custom lightweight JAE45, unfortunately the boat it was not strong enough to survive a crash at the weekend... Would the lehner motor be suitable for the Raptor or would i need to run the NEU 1527?

              cheers

Brian busted up his foot pretty bad so I know he is down for a month or two, but hopefully he responds to you.

Of course I can assist with set-up. I have run several motors including a Castle 1717, 2250/7, 2250/6, 2240/8 and a 2260/6. The 2250/7 or 2260/6 are my best picks for heat racing. For a 5000mAh pack I would go with the 2250/7, for a 2260/6 I use a 6000mAh. While the 1717 gets the job, it is down about 5-7 mph compared to the LMT. I run a MGM 28026 or a Castle ICE Lite 200 with those motors and fit it alongside the battery.

5000mAh for a 6 lap race with not too much reserve to spare.

Not good news about Brian, hopefully he gets better soon. Ill be running a very similar setup 2250/7 MGM 28026 with 5000mah cells, which props are you using on this setup?

I tried to make these happen for us. Fail. It never got any testing anyway so it may never have performed. Looked cool though.

At least I got a mold off of it before I shipped it to a far away land. Some day I'll get one built. Right after the other dozen or so trying to get out of the noggin.

Great looking plug Terry. If you have another nasty winter like last year you should have plenty of building time.

Yeah but I already have 4 builds in the chamber.

I need to get good at bagging before I tackle laying one of these up.
