    Help wanted

    Good day fellas
I am new to fast electric and would value your opinions on the following
I am scratch building a 36” long X 11” wide catamaran (mat’l Balsa with fiberglass covered); and plan to run a single motor for sport only (no competition)
This is what I plan on using
Turnigy 3974 90A max OR leopard lba3674 95A max Motor
    Turnigy 120A water cooled esc
    Turnigy 5000MaH 25c 3s batteries
Will this combination work well in the boat described?
    Welcome your recommendations

Why do some setups use and offset rudder?

    Use a 4074,4082 on 6s in the 1500- 1600 range on6s with a 180a -220a Speedo . Good match for that hull.

Use a higher c rating battery on boats, I use 40c and up depending on the brand!

You had posted some Turnigy equipment so I am assuming you are wanting to keep the cost down, I run quite a bit of Turnigy stuff, great bang for the buck.

                Couple motor suggestions:

                Zippys are good too: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store..._3S1P_45C.html

Thank you for the reply; it is inline with other replies
So I can understand brushless motors; can you explain why you chose the 4082 over my choice; also the batteries
I also see rudder setups that are centered and also offset; what are the advantages of each and why used?
                  once again thank you

Its better to have a little more power than maybe wishing you had gone that way from the start. A 3674/3974 are more suitable for 30-33" boats. Boats require lots of amp delivery, they are under constant load so 40c is the chosen minimum we run. Loading up a 25c batt can result in short life and/or puffing of the batt. I personally prefer a center rudder with a long setback (to extend beyond the prop) better stability in my opinion.
