    Drive dog slipping?

I have tightened the drive dog on the flex cable many times, but each time I put a prop on and tighten it, it slides to the stuffing tube. The cable is the kintec upgraded cable for the revolt 30. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Grind a slight notch/flat spot into the shaft where the set screw goes, try to leave a bit of a Ridge that the set screw would button against before it can slide closer to the tube.

It already has a notch but the notch is pretty large and it just slides around in it.

Then bring the flex out of the coupling a bit so the notch is far enough out that it can stop the drive dog. Also make sure you have a locking prop nut, and don't try to over tighten it.

i think i just need a slightly larger allen wrench to tighten it down more. I am using a .050 size, which is getting stripped, but a 1/16 is too large :/

im going to try a new allen wrench before I take some of the cable out of the coupling.

I consider Drive-Dogs and Flex Shafts disposable... So I generally remove the set screw, drop in some Loctite 603, and screw the set-screw back in. Done... It's never slipping or coming apart again.

Think about it... how often does one REALLY take the drive-dog off? Glue it on and remove that failure point.

Same here but use 638 so the entire inner surface of the drive dog is bonded to the flex shaft. I then grind away any part of the set screw that's exposed and polish with increasingly finer grits of wet/dry sandpaper.

Turns out that loctite 603 is hard to come by, but I found it on Amazon and ordered a 10oz bottle. Thanks guys!

Napa sells it but red loctite holds up for me.

I tried all the hardware and auto stores around me and they only carry the thread locker for the most part

It's called sleeve retainer. It's some mean stuff. Red will work fine tho. Put some on the shaft where the drive dog will be, slide drive dog in place. Take set screw out. Put a drop on the screw and a drop in the set screw hole. Put screw in an tighten. Wipe excess loctite. Let sit over night. As long as you have a flat on the shaft that the set screw hits, I guarantee it won't come loose.

So I was randomly out tonight and passed by a napa that I didnt even know existed, so I just picked some sleeve retainer up. Just put it on. Ill let it sit for 24 hours and then we should be good to go! Thanks guys

                              Soldering is just as easy.
