    FPV racing

Has anyone here tried FPV racing with fast electric boats? Or even just tried mounting an FPV camera on their boat and piloting it via a wireless video feed? If so, how was it?

I was asking the same thing to myself... i have a FPV setup laying around, but haven't put it on anything yet. If you do try it, post some updates please!

Hey, thanks for your reply! I am gonna give it a go. FPV racing is becoming really popular with other RC vehicles like quadcopters and cars, so I thought, why not boats as well?

If you decide to give it a go as well, please post your video in this thread. :-)

I will, but my idea of positioning the cam, needs a bit of work on the hatch... i want to have a driverview, so i need to put a plexiglass windshield on the hatch, and make sure it is water sealed.

What would be the best option for the camera hold...? Fix position or on a gimbal?
            My first thought were this:IMG_20150617_190630.jpgIMG_20150617_190703.jpgIMG_20150617_190719.jpg

Use a gimbal if at all possible, makes a huge difference with the drone. I was thinking about putting one on my mean machine, then I could sit in my air conditioned car, put on goggles, and drive my boat around the lake. FPV would be cool.

I was thinking of a fix cam setup. I think it would give more feedback about the boat behaviour. But again, i have no input on this, i'm guessing here. i might be way off the track and not knowing!!!

With gimbel, image stabilization, no gimbel, video is bouncing and tilting, much less enjoyable to watch.

How do they stand up to water and the constant violent bouncing? I would love to know......
Too many boats, not enough time...

I would think that water spraying on it would make it tough to see, might be tricky to mount it in a way that avoids that.

                            Ho hum....

While the idea of FPV racing is interesting...I doubt its practical.

Lack of peripheral vision, spray on the cameras etc...can't see it working.

If the cam is mounted inside the canopy, the water will just slip over the windshield.
