How to: cutting, shortening, chopping rudders for more speed.

For once the search button didn't come up with much on this one so I am asking the question: What is the best way to do this?

How much do you take off at a time?
Obviously, when you take off too much you would go back one step but, how does the boat act when too much is taken off?

    So much to think about...

Buy an additional rudder and keep chopping till it no longer tracts straight, then go back an 1/8" or whatever increment you were cutting off.

Poor tracking and poor turning (although not looking for turning performance, the boat still needs to turn around) but as stated, have an extra blade, cut 1/8 or 1/4" at a time until you see a decrease, then cut the untouched one to the last good length.

Okay, here is my first attempt at a high performance rudder! Cut off 3/8", wet sanded, and polished. This thing is razor sharp!
