Want to build my first NAMBA race boat- a few questions

I did not start building rc boats with the idea of racing, but after finding that there is an active NAMBA chapter near me, the notion of joining has crossed my mind.
I downloaded and printed the 2015 NAMBA Rule Book and have been reading parts of it in my spare time. But what I find in the rules and what is being talked about in the forum seem to be from different planets. Small boats are limited to 1S or 2S. I built my first boat (a 22inch V) with a 5200kv motor which would work fine, but my second boat (a 23inch V) has a 2800 kv designed to run on 3S or 4S. Will that motor be competitive running on 2S? Do I just need to prop up for lower rpm's?

I am currently running my 23 V hull on 4s and it is very squirrely at high speeds. Do I just need to power down to 3S or can trim tabs and fins cure chine walking?

If you've got a club nearby, I'd check with them and see what they are running before building too much. The clubs I run with (IMPBA) between MN and WI are mostly doing the spec or P-limited classes. The club you mention may have some classes you could run in, but the P-limited classes have been pretty popular at a lot of clubs.
I started the same way by building a couple before I found the local club. The guys in the club were a big help. I'm sure your local club will be just as helpful. Every venue/club that I've been to over the years has been filled with great guys who are always willing to give advice.

Lee is right. Check with the local guys. Don't get bogged down in the "rules". Do what will get you on the water in your area and go from there.

Where in Wisconsin are you located? Not aware of any or many NAMBA clubs in WI. We had a large one near Madison about 5 years back but since joined the Badger Club near Racine and went IMPBA.

Our Web site has information on it for classes we run and race dates if interested. We also spend a good deal time at the pond testing. The pond is private with access daily for club members. And as is referred to we don't get too hung up on rules. We will run anything with a strong focus on fun and participation.

Sorry, I got it wrong. It was IMPBA district 4, not NAMBA district 4 in Oshkosh. I called the last president this evening and he said the club is basically defunct. Club infighting and moochers at the pond caused most of the long time members to leave. It was unclear to me if anyone took over the reins to make an active club there. I did find the Badger Club, but it is a bit far to drive for me with my tight work schedule at this time. So I will download the IMPBA rules and peruse the Badger web site and decide if it is worth the drive to sample sanctioned racing. I am in it for the fun and to get my kids, 7 and 9 year old boys, into things other than computer games and watching you-tube videos of others playing games. By the way, I'm located in Green Bay and West Jacksonport.

There is an IMPBA club in Oshkosh. Not sure about the defunct thing. Someone is out of the loop. They just posted that they will be hosting a race on June 13. I assume they also have days that they get together and just run boats. They are a bunch of really good guy's. They make the trip down to our races quite often. Al Archer is an Oshkosh club member and the District 4 Director. You will find most of the IMPBA race and club information on International Waters. In District 4 we run the 3 fuel types at most of the races. Gas, Nitro and Electric. This keeps the clubs viable.

My contact info is on our Badger Web site. Contact me if you want to get some Oshkosh Club Member contact info.

By the way - we are getting some young folks starting to race at our Badger races. Both nitro and electric. Bring the kids - we'll get them on the water.

Thanks TS and Doug and anyone I left out

2015-05-08-824a.jpg2015-05-08-825a.jpgI went to the Badger website and found they are running P-limited super stock, so I ordered an Aquacraft 2030 from OSE for my Deltaforce 29inch hull. I hope that will qualify. Thanks again for all your help. My 4082 1400 kv 3700 watt 8s motor will have to find another home. Glad I did not install it yet!
