Catamaran Water Pickup

Guys, referring to the image I've posted would the area indicated by a vertical black line on the back of the port sponson be a suitable mounting location for a water pickup (one 3mm brass tube mounted both sides and brought directly up into the hull)?

you can put it there but will cause reasonable drag.better location is after the prop.

How much speed loss could I expect if I were to position the pickups as per my picture? The brass tubes would only protrude past the bottom of the ride pads by a very small amount. Also I'm not racing the boat so I don't need peak performance.

I can't say how much but there is a loss and as you said it's a fun boat you can install it as per your pic.

IMO thru hull style pickups on the bottom of the hull work best when it comes to keeping drag to a minimum while providing sufficient cooling. You can go ahead with 5/32" brass tubing and copy whats seen on twin cats. A boat will run better with a pickup through the hull.
