I just happen to have this 35v 1000uf (picture) cap and I was wondering if I can use it instead of the originals... any thoughts?
Tech Guys, PLease chime in...

Don't do it. Those Rubycon ZLH capacitors are special low impedance type. I think they are there for inductance (?) control. Call Castle's tech support and ask. Share with us what you find out.
BTW, cap tech sheet: http://www.rubycon.co.jp/en/catalog/...inum/e_ZLH.pdfLast edited by AntronX; 08-28-2008, 08:10 PM.Comment

Are you trying to improve on their design or are you trying to repair the caps that are on there?Comment

I spoke to Castle, and looks like you can go with bigger caps as long as they are the same high speed low impedance type. Those caps are there to smooth out the ripple current from the controller. But I think with bigger caps you will get bigger spark when connecting battery.Comment

AntronX,
who did you talk to at CC, I have been trying to talk to peeps there and have no luck...
I believe these caps I have are Low ohm, high ripple... and yes, I'd probably get more spark but on a 2s1p pack it really is not all that bad... if it was a 10s pack, I'd be thinking about damping that spark a bit. Thanks for the info.:::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::Comment

I called their number + option 1 for tech support. Did not get a name of a person i spoke to. They are very knowledgeable and having excellent tech support like that makes their products worth their price. For 2S i don't think it's even worth the trouble of unsoldering old caps, unless one broke off.Comment

I'm surprised they advised you to make any change of this sort. I would think they would void your warranty if it even still is.Comment
