Sponson angle on a cat hull??

    Dihedral angle??
Should there be a difference in the angle of the left and right sponson the same as on a sport hydro for Oval Racing?
For Offshore racing should the dihedral angle be the same??

    Oval Racing
    Left sponson -- 1.5 Degrees ??
    Right sponson-- 0.0 Degrees ??

    Offshore Racing
    Left sponson -- ?? Degrees
    Right sponson-- ?? Degrees

Hi Larry, it seems that you want to try and optimize a cat for ovals, similar to the sponson differences on a Whiplash. This would be a project that for all I know breaks new ground. It sounds pretty logical but, unlike a Whiplash most cats that I know of are not designed like a Whiplash where aerodynamics almost play a bigger role than hydrodynamics.

I'm far from an expert in either of the two above studies so, all I can really add is to give it a try in a way that its not permanent.

I can see you want to optimize the hull for ovals so, lets try it out. Remember that if it works for ovals it might not work for the left and rights in offshore classes. Most guys like to set their boats up to be suitable for both and don't worry about these things, I do that too so I haul less boats around.
Are we talking about a Mean Machine or maybe a Cheetah?

The Cheetah sponsons remind me of my old H&M Maritimo that had rear sponsons a little less deep than the forward ones. H&M designed the hull in this way so that it could be set up similar to a 3 point hyydroplane giving some slide in the corners and it worked fairly well for those that understood the concept, some didn't get it or didn't like it and would totally redo the pads to resemble an Aeromarine sponson stance. This let them set up the hull differently with less slide in the corners in order to prevent speed from bleeding off.
I hope I have given you something useful to work with. I'm still adding a transom doubler to my Cheetah and then I'll slap it all together. I'd really like one of those cool motor mounts from Kintec but, shipping is more than the part. I'm kinda busy Monday and Tuesday but, later in the week we could talk on the phone.

The hull is the Mean Machine.
I want to set it up for "P" Offshore - but also use it in "P" Cat

So would you say Dihedral on both sides.
      How much?? 1, 1.5, 2, ??

I don't think I have enough knowledge about cats to answer you with confidence. I'll be running a Cheetah stock unless I find it doesn't work well, then go from there.
