Hi all started inspecting my JAE.21for upcoming season and noticed the Z-21 strut had close to 3/32'' end play when i moved the stub shaft' hull has only had about 25 runs on it im guessing the Z-21 is not the highest quaulity strut on the market ! In a previous post it was suggested i look towards the speedmaster .21 hydro srut. Would a flat bottom strut be a good choice ? On my Matrix ultimate ultimate i have a old Hughey boats strut.WOULD ROUND OR FLAT BOTTOM Speed master .21 be best suited ? What strut's are being used on the J.A.E. .21 FE ? Regards Andris Golts.
Strut upgrade for Jae.21 fe and Matrix ultimate rigger.?

Do you mean side play between the shaft and strut? If so, I wouldn't worry about it. No benefit to a flat bottom strut on the JAE because the rear rides on the ski. I did put a Speedmaster strut on my full P JAE FE. Room is tight on the transom with all the hardware and my tub is 1/2 wider than stock. I made it work but keep in mine you have to be careful what rudder you use or you may have to modify what you have. I wanted the same placement on the Speedmaster strut in relation to the ski as the fixed strut so I put a 1/2 inch spacer between the transom and strut. Then I cut the nose off the strut and sanded a flat area on the bottom nose (same angle as the ski) of what was remaining to get the strut as low as possible on the ski. The set up works great. Because of the lack of room on the transom I only use two screws on the Speedmaster mini rudder so I made a little brace for the rudder bracket with a little CF plate.
Here are a few pics of the set up. Sorry about the crappy picture quality.Mike Chirillo
