Pursuit 1 piece flex too short

I got impatient and took a gamble on purchasing the replacement 1 piece shaft for my pursuit while i was away from the boat. The store said they can only guarantee fitment to OSE pursuit where mine is a later HK version but i couldnt find the pursuit on the store to compare hardware. Anyway the shaft turned up and its a bit short. My question is; is this because the motor is further back in the OSE version or does the prop sit closer to the transom? I am wondering if i a) just buy a longer shaft and cut it down to suit the current hardware or b) modify the stinger and shorten it up to use the current flex shaft. I have access to the equipment to modify it but it would probably be more effort than its worth. I am also worried the bearings would be closer together and potentially accelerate wear of the bearings and shaft.
Has anybody done this on the pursuits before and would have photos of their hardware. I also find it interesting that the original stinger body and dog drive are so chunky compared to the OSE version.

Nice look bit of gear, just a shame it didnt fit straight in:

If i was to just buy another shaft would this be the one i would use:

would the dog drive and nuts that came of the OSE pursuit shaft fit on this one?

I would want to avoid getting the wrong one again as the postage to get it to me costs as much as the item itself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Damien.

Edit: The threaded prop shaft is not the original one, the original had a bullet collar thing with a grub screw which didnt sit on the shaft flat spot with the bigger props so i bought the threaded shaft.

I think you will find the OSE Pursuit uses a strut rather than a stinger as you have on your HK Pursuit, the strut is much shorter than the stinger version allowing the flex to go into the coupling.

hmm.. Been a long time since I had a Pursuit. The pursuit from Hong Kong runs with a metric 2 piece drive shaft. If I recall correctly though, I did just what you are doing. That shaft you picked is correct and I believe it will work fine with the stinger that came with the boat. Not 100 percent on this, but if it was me, I would buy just what you are looking at.

I should point out to you, that you will need to cut it to the correct length AND you have to grind a flat spot on the shaft for the Drive Dog(thing the prop goes against). All you need for that is a Dremal tool with a cutter wheel and grinder wheel. Lot's of sparks when you are cutting, but it goes very easy and you can do it for sure. As far as the drive dog fitting from the one you just bought you should be good. 3/16" is the standard shaft size and if you bought it here at OSE it probably is that size.

You also might note that there is a gap where the stinger that goes to the hull on the Pursuit. There are washers you can put there to fill it. Otherwise, it is kinda messy in that grease will come out there all the time. Not required though. Hope this helps.

Oh, the collet. I seem to remember that the collet that came with the Pursuit may not work with the drive shaft you are buying possibly. Again this is because the old one is metric and the one you are buying is slightly different. You might want to test it with the shaft you got from OSE that is to short and just see if it works with it. If you need to get one 5mm x .187
