leaking cooling jacket

have a 380 cooling jacked sold here on OSE http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...-fei380-jacket
but for some reason it leaks. both motor and jacket are new and was set in with WD40 before sliding it on.
was thinking putting on epoxy glue to seel it. but figured id ask the guru`s on here before i did.

Can you determine where the leakes come from. The seals or the fittings....
Did the orings stay in play were there seated properly before install???

seems like the leak is between the motor and the oring.
the rings were\are in place when i installed it and they still are in place. it only seem to leak when i drive the boat hard. until i do about 3/4 trothle it dont leak.

Could the water be leaking somewhere else in your boat? How can you tell exactly that the leaks are from the o-ring and not from the boat itself? Don't use epoxy, one day you may want to take off the cooling jacket.

Try making an adapter to go from your garden hose faucet to your boat's cooling system and run water through it. Adjust the faucet so that the water stream exiting your boat's output water nozzle will equal the stream you get when running your boat full speed. Then see if your o-rings are leaking.

yes it is in the jacket that leeks. did a little bathtub test and the water flows from the side of the jacket\motor (between the oring and the motor) at about 3/4 throthle. and up.

Recheck the orings.... One might have popped out of the groove. Alkso check to see if the fittings are in too far and are hitting the can...

I had that problem also and ruined a couple of silicone jackets. Turns out WD-40 is the culprit and softenes the silicone.

this is the aleminium one.
took off the jacket, cleaned it and reoiled it. diddent feel any inperfections so hopfully it wasent damaged as i took it off.
guess il have to go down to the pond tomorow. poor me

I've always used dish detergent(liquid) to lube o-rings/water jackets/cooling lines/etc., while I haven't noticed any, I suppose that one might get soap suds on the 1st run...

Simple solution, put a thin bead of silicoe around the the edges of the cooling jacket, smooth it with your finger and let it dry. I do that to all of mine as a precaution and it works great. (I also had some leaks when just relying on the "O" Rings.)

before applying the silicone, put some masking tape around the motor 1/4" from the joint between the motor & jacket; after the silicone tacks peel off the tape for a neat look.

thank you guys. wil try again tomorow or later today as it was bloody hard to se if it helped as one of the chooling hoses fell off ( forgotten to fasten it propparly after i took the cooler off yesterday) and the boat was full of water
