Interesting one! I have no idea what you would do, when I raced brushed 1/12 RC cars back in the 80's we used to run our motors on low voltage in a cup of water to seat the brushes quicker.
I wonder if you would have the same results getting one wet on the back of a boat. Brushes may wear out very quick.
The cost of keeping brushes in them and constantly doing the commutator on a motor lathe sucked!
Going to keep an eye on this thread, still have a bunch of those old car motors hanging around......
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Non chlorinated brake cleaner from Canadian tire. After cleaned out, oil bearings. Not much else. Take it apart and take a tooth brush to it and check for rust inside.

What Ray said but I used electric contact cleaner. How many turn is it Andrew? We used to use the 25/5turn's in 1/10th scale racing when I frist started

And doing that in between every heat, including totally dis-assembling the chassis and dusting it off, re-assembling again, cleaning bearings, changing gears to compensate for tire wear, impregnating your rubber with the most aggressive chemicals you could legally obtain and cooking your ni-cads in the mean time........
