Thoughts and proposal on width of battery tray

The "standard width" of either the popular FG or CF tray works fine for the most common dimension of 4s/5000mah Lipo batteries if they are placed in the sponsons of a Catamaran or in the V-bottom of a mono. As long as each battery gets its own tray. For hydros and Cats that have their batteries on the floor, the placement of two of these side by side is too wide if you have no intention to affix them separately on their own. IMO if you use velcro strap and the tray is wider than the sum of the width of the two batteries, then there is no chance that the strap can be cinched tight. One tray is too narrow for two batteries. Here is what I did with my set up since I will be running 4s2p in my hydros and 4s1p (x2) in my H&M Intruder Twin.

It doesn't have to be shaped like that, just the regular shape but with a wider width. I for one would be much happier if the factories would consider this configuration for 4s2p setups.

    Tim thats a great idea.
    Thanks for sharing.
Would it not help to have it be a bit wider even?
Why make it just short on the sides and not be the same width as your batteries?
Or just slightly larger then have the slots running the other way to affix your velcro to?

I am wanting to start selling a line of battery trays and ESC covers and things soon and this is very helpfull to see what boaters are needing and wanting!

Jeff, IMO for max tightness, the tray has to be a bit narrower than the batteries' width. The strap has to come around the tray and be already hugging the batteries.
As for a strap lengthwise, I have notched both ends and done that, but only on one single battery as in my OB tunnels and riggers. To run a strap in the middle of the two packs is like giving a "wedgie" to the packs. In which case you still need two lateral straps to hold them tight together in order to survive the "wedgie".
This has never came up, I suspect other people have better ways than I do, but I always run ( well, in most cases) 4s2p and I never but the batteries on individual trays so this is what I have learned. I am not a fan of putting velcro on the tray, I wrap the batteries in friction mat and strap them down.
I only use velcro in the absence of a meaningful battery tray.
      Just my $ .02

        Interesting.
I don't have any experience running battery trays as I have always had to Velcro them to the floor because of limited space in my scale boats.

My cheetah will be another story as it can fit battery trays.
