Need a second boat with some speed.........

First boat is an Atomik Barbwire. That got me hooked. Price/fun factor cannot be beat. Now I'm ready for a second boat. Not sure what hull I'm looking for. My price limit is in the low $300s. Something like the Aquacraft Lucas Oil looked perfect. Size is about what i want. Price point is ok. Speed is exactly what I am looking for, around 50mph. Then I read it didn't handle chop very well. Bummer. So I looked for another Aquacraft with similar electronics, in a V hull, and I couldn't find any??? Looks like the Impulse would fit the bill, but it is discontinued. Did they not replace this V hull with something similar?

Not really looking for something to build. I would like a RTR or PNP that would have some easy hopups. (Again, Lucas Oil would be perfect sans dealing with chop.)

    Thanks for any direction......
    Mike

You will need an ESC and servo with this one but will come in under $300 with it all, the T120a ESC is for sale on this site and is a huge bargain at $49!!

The Lucas oil is the same as a motley crew? If so, get it! I saw one run this weekend in some decent chop and I was very impressed. I don't get impressed easily. You won't regret it. On 5s it's very fast. Idsay about 60ish with a prop change from what I saw Sunday.

I certainly don't have my mine set on a cat........but the Aquacraft cats give me speed, RTR (or PNP), great company, and a great power system. They only come with 60 amp ESCs, but they get all kinds of speeds in their stock setup. That transmits into long run times and cooler electronics. But have the ability to upgrade later. I've not seen one run in person, and every YouTube video out there shows people running them on lakes that have no chop, so I'm a little unsure how much chop they can take. I'm surprise they don't have a current V hull in that setup.

My three buddies all have Barbwires, but they mostly run sailboats. They like wind at the lake, but that creates chop. So I'm thinking a V hull would be better. Last thing I want to do is get to the lake with my friends, and not be able to run my boat because it is to choppy.
The Revolt would be great. But I am ready for something now.
Anyone else with competitive boats? Or how much chop a cat can handle?

Who told you the Impulse 31 has been discontinued??

The Version-2 boat shows current on PB's website... http://www.proboatmodels.com/Product...rodId=PRB4250B

                        And Horizon Hobbies website... http://www.horizonhobby.com/impulse-...tr-v2-prb4250b

That would make for a very nice step up from the Barbwire (not bashin the BW - just sayin), good power, good electronics, great customer support (toll free & weekends too). Lots of affordable hop parts from both OSE & Kintec.

The info about cats is true, they do handle quite a bit different from mono's. Mono's are definitely more forgiving in chop - think of it like this...
When riding a motorcycle you lean into a turn. If your a skilled rider than you can go pretty fast without flipping over. Now ride a quad bike, if you don't use some serious body english that thing is gonna flip & tumble. The mono is the motorcycle & the cat is the quad. Unfortunately, it's kinda hard to apply body english to a remote controlled boat, go too fast & they flip in a heart beat.

                        My2C FWIW...

I would LOVE to have a revolt 30. But they are discontinued or they are out of stock everywhere. How about Hydros like the UL-1? Do they also have the same problems as cats when running in choppy conditions?
