that twin looked extremely slow. the motors were screaming but the boat looked lke it was doing about 40. i honestly don't think its worth 400 bucks more, especially when your going to yank out the motors and possibly escs and redo it. the single seems like a better deal and can easily go faster than that. thats just my honest opinion. If you truly prefer the twin, then go for it.

Is there any real advantage of having twin brushless motors instead of one big single brushless motor?

Do you think the quality look good?

Do you know of any other boats similar to this that are good reliable boats?

I have one of those (daytona) but it's custom built. Nice boat no doubt, but I don't think that rtr is worth a grand. This is a much better deal...

Do you think the zonda cat is a better boat. The same place that has the carbon genesis has 3 different set ups of the zonda starting at $1200 to $1450. Only looking at this hobbyshop because i live in Australia.

Whew! That's high! I'd prefer a Zonda but not at that price. I bet it would be still cheaper from kintec even if shipping was 100 bucks.

If i was to get the zonda and run it on 4s would there be alot more maintenance to do to it having twin motors and what sort of speeds would it do. I have a Traxxas Spartan stock esc and motor running 6s so also as i can beat the spartan i would be happy. I'm probable not going to race it, it would be more for fun.

                Hi
                I am Australia too
I have not long had a Zonda V1, just added a dual water pick up rudder, put in a 6s Lipo on each motor and the GPS showed it ran 119kmph(73mph). so that was without doing any set up, standard motors and the 120A esc, so you could say it was almost straight out of the box, I haven't had time to really muck with the set up at all yet.
I do agree the Kintec is better value for money even with postage.

I also have an apparition which I have spent some time on to get the best set up on, using the standard motors. I added 120a ESC's and dual pick up traxxas rudder with 5s on each motor and it has been running 105kmph(65mph) consistently for the last 6months without issue(best was 109k)

All depends what you want to do

When i first started looking at getting a cat I wanted a Zonda Cat or the fighter cat daytona. I got talked out of the zonda by people saying its to thin and i will break it and get sick of the twin motor set up because its extra work just get a big single motor cat and with the fc daytona i have never built a boat before and its alot of money to stuff it up.

I want a cat that will be quick in a straight line and can still turn, but it doesn't have to be a race boat.

Did you get your zonda from Kintec, what do you think of the hull and do you have any heat problems with your set up.

have you had any problems with the apparition hull and did it come setup with the counter rotating motor and prop. Where did you get the apparition from.

I have a Daytona and an apparition (fightercat rivercat). Both can turn pretty decent but not like a cheetah or a mean machine or a hydro. Heres a video of a single motor rivercat I built for a guy. Very mild setup. Runs about 70-75mph with a little mo r aggressive prop than what's on it in this video....

Here's the Daytona. This is the first run and was more a test that everything worked.

I brought my Zonda second hand never used, from a family that was going to get into boats, but decided quad copters were more fun. so I don't know the origin, but it is defiantly the first version and hull does seem thin. looking at the version 2 on the kintec site, the motors are further back and they say the hull is reinforced. haven't noticed any heat issue.

as for the Apparition, that was a little more work, than I indicated in the first post. the hull is fiberglass (chips easily), from Hobbyking with counter rotating props. it was a bit of a case of eliminating the weakest link as I went along. first thing was to replace the poor motor connectors, that would get hot and fall off (due to resistance in the connectors).
then increased the battery size and water cooling, which resulted in the drive stubs cracking where the flex shaft joined in to it. I just brought a new set of flex shafts and stubs from RCBB and epoxied the flex shafts in to the stubs, and has been good ever since. then I just started increasing the prop size until the motors stared to warm up. they get hot, but not hot enough I can't hold my fingers on them, I haven't actually measured the temp.

as for turning, I am just a newbee, so I would not know a good turning boat if it fell on me, but I will try and take a video, but seems good to me.

but does not look that different to the cool video kfx posted

Thanks for the videos kfxguy love how the Daytona goes. Are they hard to build. I have never built a boat before and have no idea how to find cg and stuff like that. What do you think roughly it would cost to build a reliable daytona like yours.

Trev_au1 that would be great if you could post a video. Do you find the zonda to be a lot more maintenance and double the cost when thing muck up with the twin set up.

Well I started buildings boats by gathering ideas from this forum and trial and error. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, so that helped. I'd say they aren't hard to build. If you built it yourself you could probably do it for around $600-$800 with pretty decent components.
