what has this to do with Lockheed? I know this famous airplane manufacturer, the SR-71 is my prefered plane and got a nice pix of it as desktop background on my pc but... nothing to do with Skunworks?... except that Lockheed Martin Skunk Works was a Lockheed Advanced Development Programs sort of workgroup to counter Germans advance during WWII!
Am I missing something here?

I believe it merely considered a cool name. Skunkworks is supposed to make you think secrecy, R&D, crazy concepts....stuff like that. There are skunkworks brands in several different areas, like skunkworks suspension parts.
