    a simple gadget you can make to leak-test cooling lines : ( best to do this every so often ; a leaking cooling line can fill up a boat while underway and demonstrate archimedes principle )

        That actually is such an easy way to do it i never even thought about using a syringe. is there a fix for a leaky cooling jacket? ive seen a few different cooling setups. if i were to ave a leaky cooling jacket, is there a way to take it off and leave the motor exposed, and just wrap the cooling tubes around the motor? if i were to run into complication like this?

          Ha ha , don't just assume that you will have a leaky jacket.
          To answer your question, you can't/shouldn't run the motor without the jacket. The silicone tubes can't be wrapped around the motor, you might have see cooling coils ------aluminum tubes wrapped around the motor, those were mainly for brushed motor of yesteryear.
          There are a couple of reasons why a jacket would leak: if it is a new boat, the factory didn't slide the jacket onto the motor correctly, there are two "O" rings that seat in a groove on both ends of the jacket. They can jump and thus not seat well in the groove during the installation process. If the "O" rings are not damaged ( they are delicate and can be cut or severely deformed/damaged while being put on), all you need to do is slide the jacket down and re-seat the "O" rings back to their grooves. Unfortunately this is not usually the case.
          Reason number two: if you have an old boat or motor/jacket, the exposure to temperature, water and aging would slowly degrade the "O" ring.
          What I have done, when i see leakage aroung the jacket, I head for my local hardware store and buy a tube of bathroom silicone sealant and put it around the gap between the jacket and the motor can.

          I like this method and I can do it well enough that it would not look messy at all. Those silicone sealant s are very durable and get the ones that can be used in high temp, high humidity environment.
