    Joysway Wildcat Repower

Hello all, noob to this site first off. I am contemplating re-powering or replacing my Joysway wildcat. It seems to be fair value so far, (for a rtr) but just blew up (i think) my second 120A esc in this boat. oem blew the caps, the second is a venom pro 120 and had good temps on the esc, batts, and motor except the caps(they were around 180 deg). Everything else is in the 105 range. Below is the current setup vs what I'm thinking about putting in it. Anyway, any input is appreciated.
1900 kv 120A esc 6s (2) 3S 5200 stock 1.4 44mm prop, also tried x642 and a m445, but this weekend went to the water to gps and the esc crapped the bed. Acted like lost a phase but motor ohms out fine, would only "go" half throttle like LVC. esc went bonkers. No input, wont go into programming mode etc.

So I assume ESC is bad. quick calcs show setup can pull over 180 amps (5.2x35C=182 amps)

    I'm looking to go with a 220 swordfish pro and possibly a 1350kv 4092.

is a 5692 too much assuming it will fit?

    Thanks in advance

Hello there, welcome to OSE. You may not be getting many comments on the motor/esc option if people aren't familiar with the hull. I don't have the experience either but I have seen combinations used by others very successfuly. The sf 220 pro plus, having the data logging is a good idea and a good choice for the hull size. Some people like the 4082 better than the 4092 because the 5mm shaft is shorter between the bearings and less chance of flex. Either one will make it fly setup properly with the proper prop.
The 120 amp escs you were using wouldn't be very forgiving with larger props or a wet running hull.. Why 1340kv? On 6s that may leave you rather disappointed in the performance. Around 1600-1700kv is a conservative setup that should last setup correctly. Guys run 1800kv regularly and the go fast guys...well, you want things to last. A tp4050 (4082, i think unless they changed size since I bought last) would work great in there. A tp4060 (4092) would be great to. Pick your kv and away you go.
I posted this because nobody else had dropped in yet. My suggestions are based on what I have seen others run successfully so take it as that. Good luck. Posting pictures always helps getting things rolling and you may get some further setup help and any issues identified. It would be worth the effort

Thank you for the reply! I will update on how this goes. Atomik is sending me a warranty replacement, which is great of them to do. BUT it seems even the tech support guy acknowledges the esc is sub par for the setup. Anyway, I have ordered a 4082 1800 and the swordfish esc so I'll keep you guys posted. No to find another home for the 1900kv and 120 amp esc... lol.
Thanks for your help Fella, mush appreciated.

Well, you should have a good combo there. For some reason I thought there was an issue with the 1900kv. You'll be able to start fresh and not have to wonder if it's the motor or esc causing problems and the 4082 will be more suitable for higher rpm. Plenty of motor for your boat.
How old are the batteries your running and what kind are they? You might want to bend that wallet a little further open or ask Santa clause for some new higher C rated batteries. Seems everybody is running revolectro (Sp?) batteries. Some 70c, or even 50c or higher might be a good idea. 35C batteries are borderline, especially if there cheap ones. If they are cheapies then they should go to another less demanding setup.
I'm surprised nobody else has been by, it would be good to have some input on props. Something else I should have mentioned was adding a capacitor bank. Steve sells them here on OSE and are well worth the investment. I feel bad for not mentioning it in my last post. That's why it's nice to have a few guys adding input.
You really should post some pictures of the boat, the setup inside and a picture of it at the back sitting on a flat surface with the rudder over the edge. Some of the best minds in rc boating are here at OSE, it's the place to be if you want to learn how to go fast. If you put the effort of posting good pictures I will make sure one of the experts comes by to makecsure all is in order. How does the boat run? Is it well aired out or running nose down/wet with the entire length of boat in the water?
Get those pictures up and stick around for awhile, you'll be amazed at the knowledge available here. You've got a boat that is capable of pulling some decent mph. What motor did you buy? Anyways, good luck with your upgrade. If your boat has a 0.150" flex shaft and a 4mm shaft now is the time to think of upgrading to 3/16 flex and 3/16 shaft. Always lots to do:-D. Hopefully someone will be by to slap me around if I am steering you wrong. Again though, without pictures it's impossible to offer advice on setup, things that need changing etc. Just to many variables without seeing what you got. I feel I have over stepped here myself with advice. I did look up the boat to get an idea of what itcwas about.
        Jeff
