    Question for the Hydro guy's

Guys I need general some advice on a power system in a 32 hydro. What am I looking for RPM or torque? Im unsure weather or not to run a trans and try and swing a 45+mm prop @ lower rpm or twist the hell out of a 37 to 40mm.
    Thanks
    Tom

    Tom,

Sport Hydro or Rigger? And what kind of motor? I general, you want to turn between 26 and 32K. A rigger will stand a smaller prop, a Sport hydro will likely need a 45mm or thereabouts size prop.

I would steer clear of gears, but that is a personal preference.

Ray I'm getting a sport hydro and plan on 4s. So I'll need a bigger motor from 15 to 1800 kv with quite a bit of torque.
      Thanks.

how long are you wanting to run? sport or fun run.
            i run a NEU1515 1Y on a 447 prop at around 51 ish mph with a hydra 240.
that is more of a race boat.
i would suggest not using a trans because the sprockets like to become large circles with no teeth on them very quickly
also diffrent hulls like diffrent wheels. my H and M sport 21 loves the large props and just hauls. but does not like the smaller ones due to lift reasons.
on the other hand my sport 20 whiplash likes the smaller props and the large ones seem to be a really tricky setup.

My Sport 20 Whiplash is going like a Raped Ape with a Hacker 7XL on 4S lipo and a Hydra 120 ESC. I was very impressed with the speeds this past weekend. I had a Neu 1515 1Y in mine but it just didn't seem to have the same speed as the Hacker. I think Hydro's and riggers like high RPM and Cats and Vee's like torque and big honking props.

Don't be so secretive Tom - tell us the specifics. What 32" hull, what are you looking for from it (speed and run time), and how much are you willing to spend?

Slightly smaller sport hydros can run very well with Hackers and LiPos. You just can't reliably compare a 28" boat with a 32" boat, there can be that much difference between designs and sizes. Unless you are aiming for SAW performance, I'd err on the conservative side. Tell us enough to help.....

Jay T I am picking up one of the vegas hulls. A guy down south sells them new from AQ stripped. I'm aware they are only stable to 40mph in factory trim. Im looking for mid 30s and around 3 to 5 minutes of run time .

Tom, my H&M sport 21 runs great with an 8XL and an X640 for a prop. Low fifties for sure. I'm using two 30c 3300 lipos in parallel for batts and a hydra 240. Motor comes in after a good run at about 135 degrees tops.
                    Good luck with the Vegas

Tom, a 10XL or 11XL and an x445 would probably meet your needs. Amp draw will be lower, torque higher and you'll get more run time than a lower turn motor.

Thanks Jay T & Tim :). Ill Look to unload the 8xl for a 10 or 11. I may even try and run a KB.
