    waterproofing esc's

what's a good, effective way to water proof a esc? i have a BK electronics 9920 "car" brushless esc that i am in the process of making water cooing heat sinks. the people that make it says it's "splash proof" but i don't want to take any chances. i've taken off the heat shrink on the esc so i can mount the heat sinks to the esc. can i plastic dip the esc/ heat sinks together to make it water proof? thanks for all the help and suggestions in advanced .

My Schultze 140/60 was also "splashproof" but any amount of moisture caused it to operate eratically. Had a similar issue with my HV Hydra 180. I coated both with 30 minute epoxy and problem solved.

Mix a batch. coat one side and let it dry. Repeat for the other side and finally repeat for all edges.

Care to elaborate on the 30min epoxy you used?
Ive been thru a few ESC's now, after the eratic behavior myself. lol.

Here's what I used to coat my ESC and radio. Make sure to remove any coating from the transistor's side that comes in contact with the heatsink. I also decided to use this plastic box too keep all of my electronics dry. I am tired of using air balloons for the radio and BEC.

I'll let you know what I use later tonight when I get home,,,can't remember the brand off the top of my head. I like the 30 minute stuff becasue it flows better, getting under and around all of the components. Always be sure to do the edges of the circuit board as well as they can absorb moisture.

hey Doby, thanks for the tip!! it worked perfect!! i used some 5 minute epoxy i had (had to work damn fast!) and coated it with it. i was alittle scared at first so i did it to a mamba 25 i had laying around first. after about 2 hours of curing i connected a battery to it and put it underwater.......................end result, homemade waterproofing . thanks again for the tip.

here's what i did to my BK esc>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hope it works out for you as well as mine have for me.

The Epoxy I used was Great Planes brand.

I used the dp270 to water proof my esc
they sell the stuff here and it is suposed to conduct the heat as well as insulate
when you use just regular epoxy I do not know if it will conduct the heat as well or insulate(hold the heat in)

I'm lazy, I use the same stuff Castle does. Comes in a spray can. Enough to do dozens of ESC's.

Available from DigiKey, Allied Electronics, etc.
