I am going to be building a Mystic Study 7700. It is a 56” mono. How long do the stingers have to be for the best performance? Will the Speedmaster 85mm struts be suitable for this boat or should I go for a longer pair of stingers on this boat? Thanks!

Have you used 85mm ones before? Is there anything wrong with them?37" Fightercat Shocker powered by Neu 1530 on 10SComment

A lot depends on how low you mount the stinger on the transom. The lower you mount it the shorter the stinger usually needs to be; this is because the longer it is the deeper in the water the prop runs, lifting the boat.
It is not uncommon to cut the stinger shorter after mounting it to tune how the boat runs. Start with the longer version, you can always shorten it.

So I should get rid of the 85mms and get longer ones?37" Fightercat Shocker powered by Neu 1530 on 10SComment

The stingers do seem a little short. The 48" mono I am doing (single) has a 125mm long stinger. The size was based on information gathered on this site from the experts like fluid and others that have been very successful. I would take the above advice and move onto a longer stinger, as mentioned you can cut it down. Had I gone ahead on my own the stinger length may have been ok but the height I would have drilled the stuffing tube at (as low as possible) likely would have caused me lots of grief. Follow the advice of those that know there stuff and you'll end up with a great boat. I spent countless hours reading through all the top guys builds and advice given and it was worth every minute of it. I look forward to following your build. You got one sexy boat on its way to you!Comment

Hey Demon, the stinger I used is not something I would recommend. It's somewhat different in the way it adjusts and is something I just wanted to play with. It's servo adjustable and by no means considered practical. The water closest to home is lake Ontario and is never predictable so I thought I would try it out. It intrigued me because of my background in machine building as it's created it's own unique obstacles to overcome. Luckily it can be locked down manually and used as a normal stinger.
I don't have the experience with anything else to recommend but with the boat you've choosen I am sure the experts will be along to help out. I hope we get to see some pictures of your new baby!Comment

Took some photos of her,

She is a beast. The photos don’t do it justice. Now that I can compare the stingers to the overhang of the transom I do think they are too short. Kintec sells a set that look right for this. Does anyone want a pair of Speedmaster 1/4 Gas stingers? Lol.37" Fightercat Shocker powered by Neu 1530 on 10SComment

When you asked me before, I was still thinking of the DF Sniper you wanted to build. You'll want something longer for the MHZ Study. I ran a set of MTC 115mm stingers on my Outerlimits. Worked out well."There's nothing else I really want to do other than get up and build boats." - Mike FioreComment

Oh ok. Yeah I am going to go longer on the stingers. I looked at the MTC ones but they are a bit out of my price range. Do you have any other suggestions?37" Fightercat Shocker powered by Neu 1530 on 10SComment

I was looking at them. They should do the job. I might also just go ahead and get the MTC stingers. They look like they are worth the money.37" Fightercat Shocker powered by Neu 1530 on 10SComment
