Extended Mono Strut

I'm looking to buy a strut for my DF35 mono that I'll be using in conjunction with a flood tube. I'm looking at the Speed Master stuff and I was wondering what are the benefits of going with an extended strut?

Hi,
This is backwards for an EXTERNAL mount configration. The picture shows how you will mount this INSIDE a scale hydrro. Another words the bracket mounts to the inside transome and the strut "blade" is extended thru the "floor" of the hydro through a slot .
My understanding of the term "extended" refers to a longer bracket which pushes the strut further away from the transom, but this bracket still looks like the short version.
The idea with a flood tube is to have more possible ways to adjust your strut. So if the bore of the strut is inside the flood tube, you may want to get a longer bracket.

I believe this one pictured is the hydro version and the mono version has a longer bracket and the nose cone is close to the transom. I guess I don't see the benefit of this style other than it extends past the bracket making your prop further away from the transom.

I am not knowledgeable enough to answer THAT question other than to guess that it places the drive dog and prop further away from the strut blade and also the longer bore has its benefit.
Another thing to consider is that where is your rudder's leading edge? The common conception is to have the drive dog lined up roughly where the drive dog is when viewed from the side. So if after using your mono bracket and your drive dog is still NOT lined up, then the "extended" bore will help.....

I see what you're saying. I'm buying the strut first then based on that length I'll order my rudder. I was thinking by having an extended one it adds more surface area into the water and would create more lift. Also it would get your prop further from the hull and maybe that would make it a little more stable??

Well, I am sure either version will do, but on a Mono you don't want lift, quite on the contrary. Any unnecessary lift on the stern will give you chine walk, the idea is to set the back as close to the water as possible.
That said, I honestly don't think that little extra length will give you any significant lift. The very set up of a flood tube means that your actual center of the shaft will be well above the bottom of the V. That should prevent any unwanted tendency to chine walk. Some RTR boats have the stinger or brass tube ( econo model such as the Rio EP) come out at the very bottom, these boats sometimes chine walk. That is why when using a stinger, the advice is always to drill the hole on the transome in a placement so the lowest part of the stinger is still at lease 3 or 4 mm above the dead V.

To mount the strut brackets..... just flip them over. the tapered end goes towards the motor.
