a setup to make my 42"cat fast

Hows it going? hopefully someone would like to help me set up my cat. i am relatively new to fast electric boats, this is my second and my first a bladerunner was terrible.

I want to make the boat as fast as possible with it staying in the water. I am considering the neu 1515 1y, unless there is something better. Also i dont know what speed controller to use, and im not familair with the lipo battery packs, which one to use, how many?etc.

If anyone would like to recomend a setup or share something similar you have done i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Are you using a dual motor setup? I think you'll b underpowered using a 1515.

Neu 1515 is too small for 42" hull. I am researching the power plant for my next build - 1/8 scale (47") hydro. I am thinking Neu 2215 2Y (750Kv) with Hydra 120HV on 10S LiPo. That should give me 2.5 KW of continuous power at approximately 75 Amps. That equals 3 horse power factoring in motor efficiency (85%). Neu also has 2230 1Y motor that's double the power.

        thanks for the setup

thanks so much, thats sounds like a good setup. would i be able to keep the boat in the water if i used the 2230? And do you have any kind of estimate of runtime on each of those setups?

I cant tell what runtime you will get. That will depend on too many factors. I am only planning this build myself at this time, so i don't have any real world data. 2230 weighs 3 pounds. Your batteries should be around 3 - 4 pounds also. There are guys at my club that run 40-50 inch cats with gas engines and say that their engines put out 6 - 7 horse power. I figured to match (beat ) that i will need 2230. Ask around at rumrunnerracing forums also.

My 41" Stryker racing cat tops out in the mid-60s with the following setup:

            Lehner 3060/10
            Schulze 40-160
            10S/9000mAh Thunder Power
            Octura x465
            Racing weight - 20#

On a 6-lap course plus a mill lap (1.2 miles total) I use about 4000 mAh from the packs. This is in heat racing, not sport running. With a smaller prop to give speeds in the 50s I'd expect to get over three minutes with a 3.2 volt cutoff.

A big heat racing cat running high speeds takes a lot of power, hence the low run times. The boat has to be built heavy to survive impacts from the gas boats (who seem to love running over each other). For sport runing I'd build a lighter boat and would expect similar speeds with longer run times. You can run much faster, but run time is directly opposite from speed. The faster you run, the shorter the run time will be.

What type of 42" cat is it, and what is a made out of? That will have a large effect on the best power system for it. It could be very light weight, or built solid like the Stryker.

Thanks again for all the advice. the hull is a 42" aeromarine laminate carbon layout designed to be used with brushless.

                          between two setups

Ok so ive narrowed it down to either the lehner 2280hi amp or the neu 2215, with the hydra 120hv on 10s lipo.

im not really understanding the brushless motors or lipo yet, ive kinda been away from rc for a while, which motor will be more powerful or better for a 42" sprint cat? and what does 10s2p mean for lipo?

any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks

2280 will do the job as well and 2215 is just perfect, Or... you can copy my set up: Aeromarine Sprint cat 42", Neu 1527 1.5y, 10s1p and CC HV240 esc, my highest speed was 71mph with x455 or 68mph with Prather 235 prop, btw, 10s1p = 10 cells and 1 parallel, here the video of my cat, its only 12lbs or lil less, very fun and fast but not stable as Mr Fluid Stryker and not enough for race water.
