    Advice / Help

First post , not sure where to turn at this point. Here's my story ......

I've been into Nitro RC for 20 years mostly trucks & buggies. The past couple I started with the brushless LiPO craze and learned my way around enough to keep things from going up in smoke (sometimes)

Well I made a call to Fine Design rc Marine and told Chris I wanted to get into the water now with a Brushless Hydro but didn't know where to start. He put a package together for me and sent it off. He told me if I had any problem setting it up to drop a line or go to his site and there are alot of good "set up" pic's there.

Needless to say the pic's on the site are useless and the bag of "hardware" looks like just another pile of stuff like the end countertop draw in any kitchen has. The hydro hull is poor (IMO) , I was told it was a "nice - no paint needed hull" the seams jump & scream look at me and the hatch won't even sit in the hull right. The day it was shipped I called to see if the wing was included or extra and Chris's wife or GF answered and would not even let me talk to him. He was just to busy. He told her to tell me "don't bother it will get ripped off anyway". I told her I didn't care & that I wanted one , to me that was what sold me on the boat to begin with. He told her to tell me I can find them on the internet and he didn't have any.

Ok now the boat came in , I was shorted the decal's I wanted along with a prop. I told him I needed everything but batt's & Radio gear. I see on his site the prop is not included but I figured since he did the package he should have known the prop is needed to move the thing and package means everything. Going on a week now trying to get him to call me back or answer an e-mail with no luck after countless tries on my end. I'm getting ready to just throw the whole box in the trash and call it a lesson learned at this point. So I figured I'de surf the net and look for help thus this post here .....LOL.

This is what I have ........
The hull ia a H&M #10791 (200$) dont even know the scale
    XL9 @ 1750 kv motor -- going to run on 4s
    Castle Hydra 120 ESC
    Hardware set for a hydro

Anyone have any thought's better than mine ....

I'm sorry you feel that way. That's a great hull. I'm looking to trade mine for that one in red. I have the 10496 viper hull dressed as the Miss budweiser. It is a great running boat!

If your going to throw it in the trash, I'll atleast pay the shipping for you to send it all to me....J/K
Just look around on here and read. This site has helped me alot. I'm like you crawled from the land into water. Another thing you could do is to start a thread in the build section. Post pics up and I'm sure you'll get plenty of input from the guys on here.Happy boating. Isat out on this years season of truck and buggy to play w/ boats. You should see the look I get from fellow car guys....lol

        Stubbs,

Boats are often times "rough". I had that same hull and it is nice. Yes, the seams screams out at you, and you could sand it, fill it, sand it some more, paint it, and the first time you touch decks with another boat, there goes all your work. Besides, when this thing goes by at 50 mph, you’ll never see the seam. The hatch needs some sanding to fit. That's just the way it is from that particular manufacturer. It's a cost-cutting measure.

The decals must be ordered separately, they are not part of the kit, nor is the wing (most of us leave the wings off because they get ripped off in the first of many flips). The manufacturer does not supply decals, I believe they are from a third party.

High-end boats almost never come with a prop. There is a science to selecting the correct diameter, pitch, and design (lifting, non-lifting, SAW, acceleration, top speed) for your application. Additionally many people put a lot of work into a prop, and they don’t want to sell ones that work exceptionally well.

Thanks for the info , I'll dig around once I get going and let this blow blow over a bit. Trust me I know the hull isn't really that bad it's just the whole combined story. The decals were asked for (Smokin Joe's) but forgotten about so there's another order along with postage. The prop , well I know now it's seperate but like I said he knew I needed everything.

The thing that steams me is the lack of support he is giving me. I could have bought all these things seperatly and saved close to 200+ dollars. I sided not to so I would have the support to get me going. I'm not going to bash the guy to death , I'm sure he's busy and all but I shelled out alot of money thinking it would save me headaches not bring them on :) .

Again thanks, I'll get some pic's and start a thread in the other section. I know I'm gonna have a lot of dumb questions you'll all get a kick out of.

Keep going with it! Dont give up that easy. Its a kick in the shin when someone like Mr. Fine makes the hobby and its retailers look bad. Its hard enough to get people into it without scaring them off. He was the first one I ever talked to about this hobby and he was almost determined to make me spend 1K on my first boat. I found this site and can now prolly build 3 boats for that kinda money and have them all be "SHOW STOPPERS". Not that im bragging but its all about finding the help and guidance you need to take a drawer of parts and make it FLY!

I have bought things from FD for several years and they are getting progressivly worse (they were the only ones that "stocked" certain items I needed). Consider yourself lucky that you got your order (or most of it). My last purchase was this winter and it will be my last from them forever.

Welcome to the boating world,,,this is a much nicer place to spend your time and money.

where are you located? You should find a nearby lake and see how things are set up. odds are, the boaters there will be helpful

Boats seem to be different than cars/planes as you get the pile of hardware and usually little info on setting up

You have started out with the top end of goodies, you might get a RTR boat and that will help with how things hook up.

the high end go fast boats seem to have the least instructions but if you hang around here ask questions and look at a lot of the websites that sell hardware you can get a lot of set up questions answered..

                  by suggestion is to look for local help. lacking that you still should be able to find someone that can set up your boat for a price {not me, I am still trying to figure out my set ups}

most important make sure the boat does not leak before you take it out for a maiden trip

                    Stubbs,

Post a pic or two of the hardware and stuff, and I'm sure there will be people here who have set up that exact boat and hardware. Then you'll be able to find out the best way to install everything and where to start. The H&M hydros are pretty popular.

I'd recommend getting a sharpened and balanced prop from Offshore Electrics, makes life a lot easier, and the props are very sharp. an Octura X640 would be a good start (I ran the same boat on an 8XL with 12 NiMH cells with that prop, so a 9XL on 4S would need similar).

The wing is a pain, but H&M don't include them. Just knock one up out of balsa, and maybe skin it with thin ply to get extra strength and a better finish.

Take your time and you'll end up with a verrrry nice boat. I wish I'd never sold mine.
