Rudder set back on a mono

I did some searching, but can't really find much on this topic. I see some guys with their rudder set back several inches past the prop on a mono hull. Then I see others with the rudder and prop next to each other. I would think by having the rudder further set back you would be able to hold a turn better and also dampen the steering a little?????

You don't want the rudder blade getting hit by the prop thrust cone (prop spray...)

Put the leading edge of the rudder blade about even with the drive-dog on most monos and you are right about where you want to be.

Thanks Darin, now does the same apply if you are building a boat that you eventually want to start running SAW in?
