    540 motor question

I have a bby warzone jr 18" with a 27 turn truck motor in it. I'm running a 432 prop and a rc hydros esc, it and the motor are water cooled. The motor still gets pretty hot and the boat isn't all that fast. I've been told by the LHS that a 19turn motor would be faster and not get as hot. Is this true? Any recommendations for a motor.

Its my experiance that LHS people know nothing about FE boats. A 19 turn motor will make it run hotter. How many cells are you running. Try going with a smaller prop. Maybe your strut angle is wrong. Or you have binding. Post some pics.
    Twin power =

      18"with a 432 spun by a cooled 27t motor gets hot ???
Unless you are running 7+ cells something is not right there.....or it's sub-drive?
Can you post up a photo or 3 of the boat so we can have a look at it.
I run a few 23t cans to a 431, 531 props and they only get warm on 6-cells and the boats in question hoot along.
      See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

I don't have any pics. I'm running a 2s lipo 4800mah. A surface drive modeled after the bby 21 I have with the naylor hadware. It doesn't get so hot that it will cause a blister. I do get a pretty good run time and check the temp after 15 minutes or so. I have a 23t I might try tommorow.
        Thanks

With a Lipo of that capacity and a run time of "15 minutes or so" I am not surprised that your motor is hot.
I think that so far your setup is most likely ok, if you bring it in after a minute to check temps, then you can up the prop or voltage to get more speed.

Bugger me.... if I ran any of my hulls and got 15 mins before I was concerned, I would be a very happy chap indeed.

Try the 23t but stop every minute or so and CHECK the TEMPS of all of your gear.

This is supposed to be fun and not about frying stuff for a laugh.

Thanks for the info. I enlarged the water intake on the rudder and shortened the rudder also. I took the motor apart and cleaned it. Ran it today after running a full battery through it , it was just warm and seemed a little faster.
