    Need opinions for large project.

Thanks for all the very informative posts. I have searched but not found anything related to my new project. I need opinions for a twin engine / drive / speed controller for a 78" large mono. It used to be single gas powered. I'm not looking to have crazy speed, just something reliable and user friendly. Thanks in advance for any input and advice.

My word, 78"!!?? that outta be an attention getter at the lake

By engines, I assume you mean electric motors. My input on this whopper:

Motor(x2) 56x102mm with Jacket. Run it in "Y" configuration on 10s2p each motor.

    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ess_Motor.html

    Motor mount(x2) http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=ose-80927

    ESC(x2) 240a 12s capable - http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...ef-HBC0240L-CW

Servo - This biggin is packin' 400 oz. of torque - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...rvo_188g_.html

    Stingers(x2) 1/4" http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...os-stinger-str

Cable(x2), I STILL dont see any large 3/16 and up cables on OSE. You need 1/4" with 1/4" shaft and at least 30" long.

Lipos -Run it with 4 5000 mah 5 cells for each motor. 2 each in series, then paralled. So you will need 8 5s 5000 mah packs, get 40c minimum. Like these bargains:

Wow thats things a beast. Looks alot like a old Prather Scarab I had many years ago. Thats a nice setup already posted, only thing I would change is the servo and thats just because I prefer using waterproof savox digital, metal gear, hi-torque. I do understand your talking $100 just for this servo, but on that size hull the rudder is going to really work against the servo. Look forward to seeing a build on this on.... DJ

honestly that big id stick to gas. thats a lot of boat to push around at not very fast compared to smaller boats for only 5 minutes. but....i like the idea....id personally say if you were on 10s go with twin castle 2028s and id go with more amp headroom and say sf 300s. also maybe move up to a 1/4 scale servos....not like you are tight on room.

Not liking my servo choice???? LOL, yeah, it looks small in the pic, but it is alot larger than the "standard" size we use(Traxxas 2075, Futaba 3010 etc........)

Those standard servo's are 40mm long x 20mm wide, this big'n is 68 x 30, weighs 5 times as much and puts out over twice the torque of a the powerful Traxxas 2075 standard servo.

It is listed as a 1/5 scale, but I cant imagine one bigger, if there is post it for him!

Thanks for the input! Unfortunately I can't run gas in the local lake, so my only option is electric. Keep those ideas coming in, I'll post progress photos when I begin.

If this helps at all. I am using the motor, motor mount and ESC that Make-a-Wake mentions in my Dumas 45" Scarab that I am working on. The Scarab is 14" wide. My motor is wired in Y configuration and I'm running at 8s4p. With your boat being twice the length I'm sure with twin everything you should be good with that hardware he mentions.

Here's a video of my boat running: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-PdL8-nNBo

Was thinking the same thing, maybe (2) Castle 2028, and (2) SF300, the SF300 isn't that much more than the 240HV, and it will have data logging, the only slight drawbacks are weight and size, neither of which seem like a major concern for this beast. Do you have any pics of the inside, so we can see what you're working with?

No pics unfortunately, but beam (width) inside is about 16" and hatch length is about 22". So I have all the room in the world. The old setup had wood stringers that most likely will have to come out, but I may be able to use some of them...What were your thoughts?

I'm guessing it's this one, I use it in my Losi 5ive-T, the stock servo in the truck is actually just a rebranded version of this also.....http://www.amain.com/Savox-SV-0236MG...oltage/p232354

I wasn't thinking anything particular, just wanted to see what you had to work with for space and access. I haven't built anything quite like this, so anything I could offer would be speculation anyway.

yes thats the one. it looks like a beast.

the wood stringers should all come out, put a cf inlay in the boat, then maybe a bulkhead up the deck somewhere once you have it all laid out. id look into some thick cf plate for the sides of the motor mounts, and possibly have a custom made mount done. thats the problem with a boat this large, everything is $$$. i went through this with wanting to do a large cat. its just more economical to do gas but in your situation its tough not allowing gas.
