    jetdrive Q & A

    Hi guys
Im thinking of getting a new boat
    And use a jetdrive
I have a couple questions about it
Hopefully you guys have an answer for me

1-where or what brand is best to buy?

2-would it be possible to use brushed motor on a jetdrive?

3-bigger jetdrive does it mean you have more speed?

    Thanx thats all for now

    1) http://www.kehrer-modellbau.de/en/

    2) Yes

    3) Maybe...depends on motor size, jet drive size, voltage, boat size etc....

Hey I looked at that hull the Mozziecraft Ricochet. I asked them if they had any drives they recommended and they didn't. I'm waiting on my boat to be delivered. I went with a Banjee jet boat.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I'm also looking for motor suggestions.

Something to consider is that jet units take a lot of power. My own experience a few years back with making small units and brushed motors with nicads was less than impressive. The jet unit at rcnz is designed for gas power and will take a big brushless setup to make it move. Sla batts just will not deliver. Don't be discouraged but expect to need a fair wack of power to perform.

              Hi peter

Are you saying jetdrive use more energy than a regular props set up?
Just to be clear since I want to have at least 2 hours of run time

Yes jet drives use a lot of power. If you are using 12 Ah batts and want 2hrs runtime then you need to draw less than 6 amps. That may work in a scale displacement hull but really isn't realistic for what you are wanting to do. If you are after long run times you may need to consider a petrol motor so you will have the power and speed required. A large brushless setup will work but you will not have more than a few minutes running on a charge.

                  Uh huh
Thanx for cleaning that up for me
                  I really appreciate it

Maybe you can tell me what type of boat electronics to have a 2 hours of run time
                  With a brushed motor

What is speed goal. 2hrs is a lofty goal for a boat

Scale tugboat speed is good enough
                      Doesn't need to be fast

Hi, I've had a bit of experience building jet boats, there are a few photos of my 10s electric on my page. It has a neu22153y motor 480Kv. It accelerates extremely fast but like most jet boats sucks harder on the water with the more power applied so the top speed is only about 65Km. I only get about 5 minutes of fun out of my power combination so I guess that's not much good for you! My jet unit is a Swashdrive (56mm 3blade impellor mixed flow pump). I believe that pump is now a 'Jettec' manufactured in N.Z. Sounds like you might be planning a bit of fishing on your boat?

Thats my plan fishing and having fun at the same time
                            I like those aluminum boats
Im pretty sure those things are sturdy
                            How about using an outboard
Whats the ups and downs on those outboard motors?

Are you going to use the boat to pull the fish in or your fishing pole ?
