Also, many moons ago, when we would make our own fins & tabs & motor mounts etc (& I still do sometimes) I used compression ear plugs.
A small hole through the centre & a 1/4" hole in the transom. Place the plug over the rod, roll it to as small a cylinder as possible & insert into the transom so that half was inside & half outside. It expands & seals everything. A small drop of light oil on the rod now & then is all that's needed. Rods were smaller than 1/8" though. And they weren't 60mph race boats.
But the original plugs are still in the boats & still keeping the water out.
