First power up after upgrading Genesis. Problem?

    Hey again guys
I upgraded my Genesis & did everything from drive shaft, rudder, Lypo 4082 1600kv & Seaking 180 esc.

My first issue was that the motor was turning clockwise instead of counter like it did stock. Someone here told me to switch just two of the three wires to the motor. Yep, that worked.
The other issue which happened even before I switched the two wires, when everything is powered up, everything is "pulsing". It's very minor but the steering servo is jumping back & fourth, barely but it's not supposed to do it. The motor also pulses. Barely noticeable just sitting there but as I give it power (REALLY SLOWLY) it pulses up and down. You can't notice it at all at half throttle and above.

On my new Seaking, a red light comes on as I'm giving it various power increases. If I really hit it, a green light comes on. Don't know if that's right or wrong...

    Thanks again!

Did you program the esc ? What radio gear are you using ? ... DJ

      Dave.
That 'Hunting' is most probably the result of running with no load on the bench.
Don't do too much of that. It's not too good for ESC or motor. Just a quick blip to check motor direction & throttle range. Then put it in the water for all your other testing.
Or sometimes if the TX is too close to the Rx antennae, the signal can swamp the Rx
The ESC comes with 15 degrees timing as default. that motor you have is a D wind & would prefer the 3.75 setting. If you still have it at 15 degrees, that could also possibly cause the hunting at lower revs with no load. But that's purely conjecture on my part.
The LED's are covered in section 6 of the instruction manual. They indicate programming mode, throttle range, LVC & high temp cutouts status. I suggest you read the manual. Not just for the flashing lights, but also for all the other parameters that you will need to adjust for what ever set up you have in the boat.

      Cheers.
      Paul.

Thats why I was asking if he had programmed the esc (timing)......

Thanks guys. No, I didn't program it & definitely have to read the manual before I do anything else. I thought it was a plug & play thing but obviously I have to do more.
I didn't bench run it for more than a few seconds two or three times. I'm thinking the hunting has something to do with interference because as soon as I powered it up, the steering servo started doing it, I hadn't touched the throttle yet.
I'm going to do the reading and order the programming card. I've never done it so it could be interesting purely for your entertainment lol. (I can hear the newb putz jokes now) lol. Funny, I used to race real offshore boats, won the world championships in Key West with our Outerlimits, can remove, tear down & rebuild a 750p big block in a day but I can't figure out a r/c boat lol!!!

Just another learning curve Dave. Just like you had to learn how to teardown & rebuild that 750p big block. But a hell of a lot easier I would imagine.
At least you have 'bumonseat' experience in how to adjust & set up the hull once she's running on the water. You'll be able to feel what the boat is doing while standing on the dock.

Dave, if its the new hobbywing/seaking/turnigy T180 V3 esc your going to need a female to female servo extension to program it. Another mistake those using the programmer the first time do is follow the guide glued to the programmer, that dont apply to boat esc's. There is only 4 program setting for boat escs you will see them in the instruction sheet that comes with the programmer...have fun and dont worry about newb questions, ask and learn we all had to do it at some point...
