    Hull strength CF vs FG

I'm researching hulls to buy for my winter project. I'm looking at building a cat that can get me into the mid 90's. As of now I'm looking at the Fightercat Shocker and Fantasm. My question is which hull would be stronger in a crash. Of course I'm going to reinforce the hull with CF, but I thought I read some where that CF really just adds stiffness not really a lot of overall strength. I'm also open to suggestions!

    Thanks!

Carbon is alot stronger and stiffer than fiberglass. If I were building a bout to go that fast (what am I talking about...I am right now! Lol) I'd definitely opt for carbon. Where are you getting a shocker from? I wouldn't mind picking up another one in carbon. Fyi...the shocker is a stronger layup than the fantasm. I've had both so I know this for fact. You building a twin or a single?

Wouldn't a Carbon Kevlar weave be best? I mean, Hanspeter uses it amongst just CF only. I like it for adding strength in my boats.

Yep, I'd go Carbon for that speed and the the maker of the hulls you listed.

Aeromarine makes some nice hulls too but, I digress...

IMHO- Some of the CF I've seen in Fightercat boats have had the epoxy resin so thinned out, I found the hull and deck more flexible than any of my fiberglass boats. And I would bet my glass hulls are stronger. If you are going to reinforce it anyway, I wouldn't spend the extra money on CF. At least not the FC line up. I properly reinforced my FG Rivercat and it has sustained little damage with numerous blow overs at 85+.

Your Rivercat build is my motivation to build a fast cat! I'm thinking twin but not 100% sure yet. I was thinking of buying the hull from fightercatracing.com unless there is another option.

Be aware there are no shockers or fantasm hulls available there. Daytona, cheetah and rivercat and super daytona are your only choices.....

Really, it says there is 4 in stock and I was able to place the CF Shocker in my cart and start the process of checking out, is there something I'm missing??

It's not going to let you finish ordering. I talk to the owner several times a week. He doesn't have any shockers. If he did, I would have another one...... try to complete the order and you'll see....

Not unless you find it somewhere else. If you do, let me know. I'll get one too

Will do, is there any other hulls I should consider in the 35"-42" range?

I agree with Chilli. Most c/f hulls from Fightercat are made by Tenshock. Although they are works of art in c/f, they need a lot of extra reinforcing to put up with any kind blow off. My own C/f shocker didn't survive a lift off at a low 80 mph without splitting and colapsing the hull in a number of places. Save your money and get a glass hull and reinforce that instead. Spend the extra money on decent hardware and motors. You will have a stronger boat. Carbonfibre is certainly killer in looks, but only goes skin deep. Steve

Thanks Steve, I think that's what I'll do. Any suggestions on other hulls I could look into?

If the "FCR Shocker" is a Tenshock boat that explains why FCR no longer sell them. Jim (Sailr) at Minicatracing has had an exclusive USA distributor deal with Tenshock for years, and has mentioned problems with illegal grey importers of other Tenshock hulls before. If you want one and live in USA, go to him.

Agree with Joel, Keith will set you up with a good hull. Also look at MHZ Mystic and the Hydro and Marine Maritimo. Both available direct from Germany. Not sure of costing in the USA. I always believe buying a local made product that measures up is the right thing to do. Steve
