Mounting holes out of spec, frustrated

Like the title says, anybody here had experienced this? Got a new motor ( brand name withheld for the time being), the holes are just a hair too far apart, there is no way the screws will go in, I tries all three pairs ( 6 holes total) , and stripped one hole. I am not going to file the motor mount holes wider. E mailed to the maker and let's see what they say.
Spent the entire afternoon trying to fit that motor....

Dam Tim, that sucks.I've run into this issue a timer to in the past. my take on it is their factory seconds that somehow made it past QC.I just returned / exchanged them for new ones rather than file out the motor mounts and ruin them.

Do you mean the mounting holes on the end bell , Just open up the motor mount holes with a drill, to get the clearence you need easy fix if you need use washers, Good luck

          Thanks guys.
I would have enlarged the hole and looked the other way, but to me it's the principle of the thing. Also this boat has a Neu 1515 1y as a regular motor so I don't want to upset the motor mount.
I was mainly pissed at myself for too trusting: the space was so narrow and I was cursing myself and never thought of anything could be wrong with the motor's endbell.
          Another lesson learned...
I am sending it back regardless what they say, don't need a dead paper weight. lol....

Can you save the thread by running a tap threw it ? It's worth a try if it bothers you that much ?

That is bizarre, never seen that happen. I'm just gonna take a silly guess here. USA based motors could have a 1 inch distance in the mounting holes, while all others are 25mm. That could explain the hairline difference of about 0.4mm or so. Just guessing here as I have never seen an end bell out of alignment like that.

Will see what they say, don't want to void the warranty, if there is such a thing.

Chinese made I have five 36xx of these motors. Hole pattern is 25mm.

How far off is it, some motors have two different bolt spacings. Did you try aligning it with another set of holes?

Yes. I did. All 3 sets of them.

If this is the motor I'm thinking I had the same problem, I have a shorter can but same diameter from the same man. and it bolts in no problems in a standard mount, the longer one was a no go.
I opened the holes in the mount a hair on each side. Not implying that makes it right though, Interesting one of mine fits and the other doesn't, I figured they'd use the same ends for all the lengths of a given diameter.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I have five 36xx series with various can lengths with absolutely no problem. This was supposed to be a 4074 sized motor but the can is more than 80mm long. It is not 83mm as its "supposed" to be. It is more like 81mm. I am at a total lost. I am not sure when the spec was changed because their site still says that it is a 74mm can. I am sending pictures to the cust. support dept.
Very interesting experience to say the least.
I have found a Leopard motor to use for the time being.
