    Total Melt Down! Why??

    Hi,
My Popeye has a Neu 1515 1y and have been running a bit hot, and that was January. I have 4s2p, Dinogy 5000mah batteries and a Seaking 180 ESC, running a De-T'd X447/3.
I have attributed the issue to the inadequate pick up of water from the TFL rudder . I made a propwash pick up to test/compare my theory and here is my puzzle:
When I initially ran the boat low speed to med.-low speed so that I can see if water is coming out , I was relieved to see a stream of water gushing out. This never happened when using the rudder pick up. Then I went full throttle and 2 min. 30 sec. later everything de-soldered and the motor had the distinct burnt smell. I have already sent the motor back to Neu for repair this afternoon.
    First:
My original suspicion was correct, when the boat is moving at a med. speed, the propwash pick up afforded much better water flow.
    Second,
The melt down could not be blamed totally on my set up alone because I have run this before though in much cooler temperature season. At that time the end bell of motor was 126* F, a Leopard 4074, 2000kv motor was also used and the temp was 110 or lower at that time.
IS it possible that at full speed the propwash pick up is not doing its job??
Here is the thread I asked the other day: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...nd-give-advice
    DSCN7367.jpg
I have moved to the other side of the strut and it is more or less at 2 o'clock position as suggested by members here.
The TFL rudder looks like this:TFL rudder.jpg, it has small pick up on BOTH sides and the machining has taken the material in the middle away, I can elongate it but by the time I am done it is just a hole on the rudder

Try lowering the propwash pick up,, I really would dremel or file open and taper the rudder water intake hole or put some speedmaster stuff on there,, that hole in the rudder is awful low althought I don't think that matters ? Also clos up 1 side of the hole with JB weld,, that might be a problem with both hole open,, there is a chance the water is blowing out the other hole

I use the dual cooling rudder from Kintec. It's a direct bolt on and works great with about the same setup on my popeye.

Did you look to see if you had the Usual neu hard wire insulation cut from the endbell? I caught it before it happened on my 1527....it was cutting through. Hang on...I'll find a pic

That dual rudder is NOT TOO big?? One guy said he has no clearance from the prop,

Well, may be I should prop down, lol... I am usually conservative, I guess 100 degree outside is nothing to over look at.

No, I didn't see, motor was new, the condition of the insulation was in perfect shape, it is not the Aqua Craft type of burn, this is over heated and the motor still works because the wires have not caked up yet. But it is enough for me to send back. I had the Leopard 4074 when I first got the boat, then I thought of up grading to a Neu, lol...

The rear view of that picture is out of proportion, and is a plastic prop I use to mock up for the propwash p/u, but nonetheless, I will prop down.

I'm not sure how you're getting away with running a X447/3, I'm running a Y547/2 and mine gets just a little on the warm side (125-130) if I beat on it hard.

I run that prop (447 3 blade) on my Popeye as well, with a 2200 kv leopard 4072 with no issues at all....although my strut is very high.

On mine I have to set it flush or it flips, I am aware of your set up and recommendations and have tried to duplicate it without success.
Strange as it seems but I never had an issue with my leopard 4074/2000kv motor. ( same strut setting) That motor ran much cooler in January as compared to the Neu. From first day I had heat issue.
