Fiberglas Alternative-Maybe?

Has anyone tried using Drywall tape? It's a self-adhesive backed fiberglas mesh used in sealing drywall seams. Approximately 2" wide, and comes in rolls of 150/300 ft. Also it's fairly reasonable in price. I thought it might work well for reinforcing seams on Hulls, or repairs.
